1986 2.8l V6. It turns over but does not start. I tried changing out the coil and spraying starter fluid into the intake manifold but still nothing. Can anyone else make any suggestions on what else to check? I'm not very familiar with how to read a multimeter but if I need to get one to troubleshoot other things please let me know. I'm going crazy with this thing. I just bought it last week so this is my first Fiero and unfortunatly I'm not very familiar with the history of THIS one.

I've owned my '88 GT for 11 years and 9/10 times if it didn't start (but turned) was because of a bad ignition module. It's found on the distributor under the cap. I changed one once very hastily and was so happy it started right up. I drove it around for about 20 minutes and then lost all compression and had to be towed home. Turns out I didn't put the silcone grease on the bottom of the module and where it sits on the distributor. I ended up smoking the the new module. The grease dissipates the heat and over time the grease gets old and less and less effective.

That's my first guess and where my money is.

It really could be a number of things but it definitely sounds like the problem is with your igintion system. Try checking the spark plug wires for spark using a spark tester (you can get one at any auto parts store).

Make sure the pick up coil in the distributor doesn't have corroded wires.

You can use an Ohms meter to check to see if your ignition coil is good. If you have either a Chilton's or Haynes manual, they go into good detail on how to do this.

Since you just bought the car, I'd go and change the plugs, wires, dist.cap and rotor anyway for starters.

Hope she starts man!

Thanks alot Dread. I got the same answer from several other people on other forums as well. I'm heading out the door right now to pickup a new Ignition Module, Pick-up Coil, Cap & Rotor. I'll let you all know how it goes.
