OK when cold. Problem gets worse as engine gets hotter. Exhaust sputters more as condition worsens. No stalling, no check engine light, shifts slow but OK, no other problem. Runs fine at 55mph....but, getting to 55 takes about as long as a full cement truck.
-new plugs and wires
-removed cat converter
-new muffler
-new air filter
-new fuel filter
Can't figure it out??????????

"what was your purpose for removing the cat?"
sometimes they clog up and reduce power.

ive removed mine too. it was broken up inside and sounded like tin cans flying around when i was driving. Who wants to pay 200 (canadian) for a new one? I didnt notice any hp change, but i did notice it was louder. lol

Could the injectors be clogged? Try using fuel injector or comeplete fuel system cleaner.

I tried the "pour in the tank" injector cleaner. No luck. Might try to have them cleaned manually, but I doubt that's the problem.

It shifts all the way up, but it still could be the problem. Sometimes the timing of the shifts are different.
Haven't figured it out yet, but it runs better in the cold. Come on winter!

chec you coolant temp sensor. If a car runs fine cold but gets worse as the engine warms up, the PCM may think the engine is still cold when in fact its not. If the coolant tems sensor is bad the car will run rich and hesitate to start after the engine has warmed up.

Coolant temp sensor would set off the check engine light if it were bad...I checked anyway. It''s working.

What's the running fuel pressure?

if thats the case, what specifically should we expect is the problem? and what kind of action should be taken?

Running Fuel Pressure. I have no way to measure that. I don't think it's fuel, but it's possible. New filter recently. If it were the pump, it would have died already after several months of this.
If it's the tranny, then it's pretty simple. Take it in and spend the 1-2-3 thousand or take it apart yourself and have no car for the several weeks it takes you to figure out what's wrong.

Not true the CTS in wifes Jeep went bad recently, caused all sorts of problems (ie trouble starting, rough idle and stalling) no MIL illumination had me going crazy for several days barely affected the dash temperature gauge.

Turns out everyone, including me, was wrong about every piece of advice I got on this one. Probably got a hundred different guesses (online and off) and only one little old Italian mechanic had a correct guess.
"Your timing chain sounds a little off," he told me about a year ago. I thought he was crazy.
The timing chain tensioner malfunctioned and over a period of months, eventually ate hole thru the cover, spewing oil everywhere.
Problem solved. Thanks for all the guesses anyway.

Hard to say.
Mine got worse week by week until i thought i was driving a cement truck, it was that slow taking off.
There was a very slight noise in the timing chain area that got worse and worse.
Try getting a stethascope and listen to it. If you don't hear anything, it "might" be OK.
