Is that so you don't have to press the clutch in to start the car?

I took that clutch switch plug off last week but the car will still not start unless i am still pushing the clutch in. WHY? and yes i did unplug the clutch switch its not that hard to see it up there with the button pushed in.

Maybe yours has something connected wrong?...

I dont think its sticky worthy. Pretty easy to do, you dont need instructions.

it won't stop crankwalk

There are two switches, the other being for the cruise control. Odds are you got the wrong one, like so many people do. :)

it won't stop crankwalk

This post bothers me. I'm not sure why, but it does. :)

Nothing will "stop" crankwalk, because no one knows what the fuck causes crankwalk. There are 25 different theories and potential causes. Why would anyone in thier right mind not do something as simple as this if it just reduces the chance even slightly? When you are running a heavy clutch like a 2600 or 3000 (like I have in the EVO) you are putting a LOT of pressure on the crank against a DRY bearing and then rotating it at a couple hundred RPM. I defintiely don't see how doing THAT will "stop" crankwalk. ;)

Man o man I have ACT 2600 , I dont want another fucking crankwalk DSM. If this DSM crankwalks I am getting it full covereged insurance and setting it on fire .... and getting an EVO :).

I think the million other things which MAY cause crankwalk are morelikely than this. Dry bearing or not a couple hundred rpm is nothing compare to a couple thousand.
Kevin I respect what you said I just firmly believe that this is not the cause of crankwalk.

I know it's not THE cause of crankwalk. There is no one cause :) There are many factors that conspire to cause this thrust bearing failure.

There is no problem with thousands of RPM, since at that speed there is oil pressure at that bearing :) A bearing surface and whatever it supports (the cranks thrust surface in this case) should never make contact while the part is moving. For example, the rod bearing and crank never touch while there is oil pressure. This is not the case when the car isn't running (dry). The difference is the rod does not exert a lot of pressure on the bearing/crank surface while you are cranking. A 2600 lb pressure plate will. I know cars have crankwalked with the start switch disabled, and others with the switch have never walked, so it's not THE cause. But it's such a simple thing to do, anyone that doesn't is out of thier mind, IMO :)

Its an easy "cure" I'll give you that. But the question isn't whether a car can crankwalk with it disabled it's why it crankwalked at all.

My car crankwalked and I had the switch disconnected... Mine was just due to the fact that I put in a heavier clutch... I really think thats all that caused it.

Im not sure if you meant it or not but you reaffirmed my position more than contradicted it?

I just thought I'd throw in there the fact that mine did crankwalk even after the switch has been disconnected for so long. Also the fact that mine was probably due to a heavier clutch because of it happening at such a high mileage. 105k miles and it crankwalked, but the switch was disconnected since 70k...

thats because on a 7bolt it kill the crank switch and stops running at a few thousandths of play. in a 6botl it can walk a lot further before anything critical gets killed
