i put the wheel back on and used the wheel puller and took the wheel off the right way. then there was a bolt poking out and a plastic cover around it. i got the plastic cover off to reveal a half rust-covered metal sprocket.
hope shone through however as i located the screw that must bow down to me in order for the busted cylinder to come out. its slightly out of reach but if i get some allen wrench style torxes then i can have my way with that screw.
another break this time sponsored by Three Brother's Sicilian Ham & Pepperoni Pizza in association with Canada Dry Ginger Ale. Special Thanks go to Cody 2 doors down for buying 3 slices and eating 1.

no he hopped out of his dodge ram 1500 RUMBLE BEE hemi V8... with a pizza box in his hand... i said what kind?... he said you want it?... there were 3 slices but he ate one.
it kept raining so i've been inside watching men in black, malibu's most wanted, and remember the titans since my last post here. also posted the thread in chevy nonspec. forum to see if that gets me more input

sorry man
i went out and bought a 17 dollar repair manual.
mr. Haynes is my new best friend.
i put the new cylinder in now i just need a new snap ring and i'll be on my way...
smh... even the jbody.org forum section about 1st Gen j-bodies didn't have any information.
o well.
17 dollar manual
25 dollar part
22 dollars worth of tools
15 dollars of gas i had to put in my mom's xterra
16 dollar steering wheel puller
95 dollars TOTAL.
i could have paid mr gm goodwrench 300 in labor and 46 for the part and had my car back in 3 hours...
saved 251 dollars.
thanks 99cavy... if you want i'll pm you some pics of the process... i won't share with the rest of these people the secrets of the ignition cylinder

No Autozone where you are? They rent steering wheel pullers around here, could've saved yourself $16.

actually i plan on returning it claiming when i got home dad already got the steering wheel off.
prolly exchange it for the thing that holds the springloaded cover down so i can put the new snap ring in.
