Does anyone know if there is a difference between the crx's headlight and the civic hatchback's headlight (same year of course).

Yes there is.
The main difference is the way the corner-lenses are mounted to the car. On the CRX ones, there is a tab on the corner-lenses that fits into the mounting bracket of the headlights, but not on the hatch ones.
I have aftermarket projector headlights on my 90 hatch that were originally for a CRX. You can still get the corner lenses to fit, just requires some slight modification to the mounting bracket of the corner lenses with a dremel tool.
Oh, and you won't be able to use CRX corner unless you get CRX fenders too...

So, I could put the after market projectors on but I would have to modify my clear corners then, correct?

just for the sake of making this conversation less confusing, Civicf/x, do you have a hatch or crx?

I have a 1990 Honda Civic Hatch Back DX, so the corner lenses were changed slightly from the 88-89. sorry for the confusion:)

ok, yea. As far as i know there are these intra-generation differences on the corner leses/bumpers
88-89
Corners - 2 screws in the side, seem slightly smaller
Bumpers - really small
90-91
Corners - Bigger, and the screw to keep it in is in the engine bay
Bumpers - Wider and more square

yeah, i found all this out the hard way, and i have a 4door. first they gave me the 88-89 3door corners... then they gave me the 88-89 4door corners (don't fit)... then they gave me the 90-91 4door lights finally. but i have heard that the CRX lights are the same as the 90-91 4door lights, but i'm not for sure, haven't checked for myself.

If you're going to get the aftermarket projectors, you have 2 options. You can just bolt them in and modify the corner lenses (really easy), or you can swap the mounting brackets from the original headlights to the aftermarket ones...
I personally just modified my corner lenses, seemed easier...

Just out of curiosity, is the corner lenses on a crx a different shape? Or is it just the mounting bracket that is different? I'm just worried that there will be a gap between the projector lense headlight and the corner lense or a gap between the fender and the corener lense if I modify the corner lenses mounting bracket.

Trust me, there will be no gap. Here's some pics of mine:

The CRX corner lenses are actually shaped differently, hence the need for the CRX fenders as well...

Your, car looks pretty tight man, I give you props. And thanx for helping me out. Do you think I could use my fenders and my corners and then add the projector lenses and just modify the bracket which the corner lens mount on to the headlight housing with?

I've got a sedan and as you can see from my avatar I'm in need of a set of headlights. Will either the CRX or Hatch lights work with my car? I know the corner's are different and I'm going to buy a set of clears when I can finally get another set of headlights, the only problem is finding a sedan in the JY is pretty hard, especially one with a set of headlights.

I have 90 civic 3dr, with adjustable coilovers, tenzo 17 inch rims (waiting on ups to deliver them ahhhhh!!!!) exahst cold ram air induction and a black widow frnt bumper with buddy club sides and rear. Don't have the cash though to put the kit on yet, had to dish out 300 for reinforcing of the kit. I'm at wits end and if this car does not come together I'm just gonna sell it. I hope it all comes together in the end. Your car gives me some hope.

Oh! Sorry man! I forgot to mention something. After modifying the mounting bracket on the corner-lenses, you have to drill a hole in the mounting brackets of the headlights in order to use a screw to hold the corner lenses in... I ended up having to buy an extra long 1/8" drill bit to do this (was like $1.50), and then used a 1/2" long 1/8" wood screw...
So you may actually be better off swapping the mounting brackets, I just didn't want to hassle with it, looked like a pain... your choice.

I believe that the sedan headlights are longer, and not interchangeable with hatch's or CRX's... If you find out that this is not the case, let me know, and I can sell you my old OEM headlights...
