:banghead:

Ok i tried to start my Grand Prix 1992 3.1L engine and it seemed as it had a Low battery " starter would bearly rotate" then i noticed the SMOKE emanating from the steering colum "seems as a known problem everyplace"

Now it smokes everytime i start to start the engine , rotates slowly :nono:
but voltage is Ok and lights dont reduce ,

What can i do ? i read i needed to change /fix the ignition wireing , now how do i remove the steering colums cover ?, do i need to remove the actual steering wheel ( needs a puller to do )

this is driving me crazy , i read also the ignition had a wire that had alot of current and this may have buned and or shorted causing a lack of current for the starter to FULLY rotate at full power,

any hel will be greatly apreciated ! great forum by the way ,

The two problems are most likely unrelated. The smoke from the column is most likely a turn signal switch going south. The factory lubricating grease for the contacts has worked it's way into places it shouldn't be, and is burning off. The starter issue is probably a bad starter, since you stated it doesn't kill the lights and voltage is ok. You could have other column issues, like a bad ignition switch, that could be smoking also, but the most common cause for a column smoking in your model car is the turn signal switch.
