Alot depends on personal taste. Over in the UK, we have limited makes available, and what decent makes we do get, we still have limited models to choose from because they dont always import the full range. Pheonix Gold tends to lead the way in amps over here, and JL Audio for the subs, but more and more people are turning to makes such as Focal (french i think) Xtant, Cadence, etc etc
I have a Kenwood Amp and a JL 12w6 and it seems to make a good combo. What type of budget do you have in mind?
If you want good low bass, i would suggest you go for 12's for the larger cone area, but if you want punchy tight bass, go for the 10's. Also, very important you get a well made sub box, as it makes a huge ammount of difference, ported, sealed, bandpass.

JL Audio subs are the best sounding subs on the market.
And you want a good amp that has a good wattage to dollar ratio. $1 for 1 watt is a good quality amp. Spending say.. $300 for a "500watt" Rockford Fosgate amp means you arent getting a true 500watt amp.
I myself recommend using Adcom, PPI, or Xtant amps. Of course theres the Soundstream Tarantula.. but we're not all millionares.

The thing about JL subs is taht although they cant handle as much power as a Kicker Solobaric.. they WILL sound 10 times better any day. The sound quality of a JL sub is still unsurpassed by anything.
Many companies out power the JL, and some can go louder. But with a JL sub, and some really nice amps, theres no way anyones gonna be nicer.

Yeah that should sound really really nice.
Believe it or not.. but the new Kenwood 5 channel amp is a really nice amp. My friend has it.. runs 2 component sets and a 12" Prototype sub I hooked him up with.. sounds really nice.

Get JL's, you should get 10W6's. If you are, hurry, because they are discontinuing the W6 models. Also, due to the ohm ratings of the W6 DVC, a set of three is more stable for amps. The most stable is in groups of three.
As far as amps, go for ZX models made by Phoenix Gold.

If you want a good amp thats relatively cheap.. get a Kicker ZR series amp. I wont run them just because I dont like Kicker. But those have some balls.

My money would go for two Alpine Type R 10 inch subs with the amp of your choice. ALpine has never produced a sub this good.

Hey guys....what if I just want to run one 10 or 12. What type of amp should I use. I would most likely buy some JL Audios. Don't really want the big bang bass....I just want to kick it up a knotch....bam....

I used to run 3 JL 10W6's. That set-up was too heavy as I turned my attention more to conserving a little weight. I reduced my set-up to one JL 10W6 powered mono by a Phoenix Gold ZX350. It still gives out a lot of bass. Nothing compared to three 10W6's, but if you take into consideration it's only one speaker, it's pretty f'in loud. Especially when I play DVD's with a lot of action scenes. Gotta love the PS2!
