Hi all,
I'm new here. I've had a look at some of the other models on here and there are some very cool builds happening. Anyway, I thought I'd share my little project with everyone. Please feel free to leave comments, critisisms and advice.
This is the kit.
http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/9273/14or2.jpg
Here is some of the body work after I've hit it with primer. Also cross drilled the brakes. And some putty work on the tank to get rid of the joint down the center.
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/1113/20ja1.jpg
Here is a close up of the engine with primer.
http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/7820/38dn.jpg
In this shot, I've given the frame a gold coat, primed the exhaust given the tank it's first (of many) layers of gold and hit the engine with a nice aluminium job.
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/1749/42qj.jpg
Close up of the engine with the aluminium finish.. weathering comes next for the block.
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5104/59rh.jpg
And one of the tank with it's first layer. Some sanding is in order and then a fresh coat.
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/174/65tw1.jpg
Anyway, work on it has been a little slow till now, want to make sure everything turns out perfect, and well, it can be hard to find time to sit down for a few hours as well.... I'll keep you all posted anyways...

Hey Syntax,
Lots of great stuff happening here, glad to see you dropped by and are adding to it.
Really nice start to the Katana, the colors are looking really nice. Do you plan on adding some accent colors to the body work, or any other custom touches.
No worries on rushing it, we will be were anxiously awaiting your updates.

Syntax,
Welcome to AF! You've made a nice start of this bike! There will be two of these getting built soon once my order arrives from Japan!:naughty:

Thanks for the comments guys.
BugZilla, I'm still undecided on the body work... The gold did turn out pretty good. I'm not sure if it's what I'll stick with though. Just today I was thinking a carbon tank and fairings would look pretty mean. So I think I'll sleep on it another night or two.
Apart from the minor work on it such as the drilled brakes and interesting paint work, I think I'll probably stick to the kit. I'm still experimenting with scratch building (with a body kit for a 300zx), but I still need some practice. I'll post pics of the Z as soon as it looks halfway decent as well.
robrex, Cool. I haven’t seen too many of these getting built to date. I look forward to seeing your model come about as well.

Hi again,
had a bit of time today to work on the model again. Finished the engine. Add some weathering to the block as well. Please feel free to leave comments, critisisms and advice, happy to listen to it all.

Hi all, been a while since I did much on this model, a little preoccupied with other models I'm building as well, but I got a chance to do some work on the exhaust today.... here are some shots.... the burn marks are a decal I purchased from Hiroboy's store... seemed to have worked a treat. Also weathered it pretty heavily, going for a used street racer look... Comments and criticism welcome.

Swingarm, suspension and wheel in place now.... just a few little touch ups and a bit of weathering to be added and the rear will be complete...

Almost done now... just a few more things to be put together, all the peices are painted and drying. Here is a sneak peak of whats to come. The tank is now a matt black instead... Anyway I'll post some more pics when I'm done, which will be in the next day or two...

I think I like the cf on the back. It's a bit misplaced on a vintage bike like this in my opinion but with the black tank it looks quite good. I didn't mention it earlier but you did a great job on that engine!

Thanks for the comments Joel. I was a little apprehensive at first as well with the CF, but I was going for a sort of a street racer type look for the bike. A bit of vintage with some modern flair...
Almost done now.... I'm looking into making possibly making a diorama for the bike, but as I contemplate adding a rider and a background (plus still having a few little touch ups and weathering to add before I post up the bike in it's completed state, I thought I'd add in a little sneak peak of the bike.... Comments and Criticism welcome.

Now I'm sure that the CF fits right in! Looks great on the fender as well. This bike is looking mean. Great job. Hard to find anything to critisize in this picture.

I agree the black matt looks good on this bike also the CF looks good in combination with the black matt.

All done... well except the rear views... but the clear coat is just drying on it at the moment (they have been CF'd as well). But other than that, it's finished. I didn't like the uprightness of the windshield, it just didn't look mean enough, so I sanded down it down a little and placed it a little more forward on the front fairing and slanted it back for a little bit more of a streamlined effect.
Well that's the first model I've completed. I've got a 300zx that's part built, but I've stalled a little so I've got another project that I started today... pics will come shortly... and as always, comments and criticism is all welcome.
