VTEC pressure switch...

I wanted to check if the VTEC is good on my JDM H22A motor. Everything was good, however there is one thing that concerns me. When I went to see how many volts is going throught the VTEC pressure switch (http://www.vtec.net/forums/one-message?message_id=579925#) connector, it read 13.3 volts (this was all done with the car running). I was reading the manual and it said it should be approx. 10 volts going through the connector. Can anyone tell me if this is something to worry about?

I'm new to the car game and I would really appreciate any help.

Is there a problem with your vtec not working?

To be quite honest, I've only driven it once so far and I don't know how to tell when the VTEC kicks in. The prelude is my first honda with VTEC. I pretty sure it's working because its pretty fast. It's just that when I was checking the voltage going through the VTEC pressure switch connector, it was reading 13.3 volts and the service manual said it should be reading approx. 10. I just want to know if this is ok, being that I have no knowledge of VTEC's.

you shouldnt be so worried about the volts as you should about the ohms. you should see 5-13 ohms of resistance between the solenoid and a ground. if it is out of spec, you need to replace it. if you have no check engine light (code 21 or 22 in particular) and you have the required resistance, then you have vtec.

Easy way to tell is to shift into 3rd gear at about 2k and hit WOT. Let the RPM's climb and you should hear a noticiable shift in the engine tone and a steady climb in power around 5k. If you don't hear a change and the power seems to drop off in higher RPM's then vtec has not engaged.
