i have a d16z6 i just put on an AEM ram air on and i have noticed lower gas mileage this tank im gonna end up at around 260 when i am usually at 300+. now it has been 100* plus out here in cali lately and im about to need and oil change but i was wondering if the intake could have anything to do with it?

change your oil, re-fill, and check again. You'd be surprised how many little things go away with an oil change.

...i just just an AEM ram air on and i have noticed lower gas mileage...
Possibly you've been driving a little bit harder since the new intake install. More power and sweet sound can be tempting for the right foot. Anyway, if the low milage still persists, try some Lucas fuel system cleaner, great stuff.

how many miles are on your motor? Might be time for a seafoam treatment. My motor looooves me since I did it

How do you use the seafoam, in the fuel or through a vacuum line? Both?

Gas tank, crankcase, vacuum lines...your choice.
94SolGrl
07-03-2006, 05:41 PM
both... 1/3 in the gas tank, 1/3 in the oil fill cap on the valve cover, 1/3 in the brake line on the firewall. Start car, rag the HELL out of it. Rev up till you can't rev any higher, drive her hard, abuse the hell out of her. Then change spark plugs and voila. Think of it as it's like giving someone who is sick a decongestant, and abusing and ragging the car is like "coughing". I actually pulled off my catback afterwards and ran degreaser through the whole thing... black tar/carbon was all over it. Car snot, lol. Then I replaced the header (I had an aftermarket one waiting, and when I seafoamed her I used to stock header). Such an improvement. Search honda-tech for detailed instructions, and be prepared to blow spark plugs.

i just hit 140k and i just got my dc header in 421. so i should seafoam it then get the oil change and put the header and new plugs? fyi i got 291 on the tank and fill it with 11.236 gal so i ran her dry to get there =) should i seafoam at like half a tank?
94SolGrl
07-04-2006, 12:56 PM
seafoam at a full tank. seafoam with the stock header on, because it will get nasty. You need to have spark plugs like on standby.. as I said.. you WILL blow your plugs, which means you won't be able to go anywhere. oil change afterwards probably wouldn't hurt either
Tyrone 95SolSi
07-04-2006, 01:20 PM
blow my plugs? so ill drive it till it shuts off then change the plugs? how long will that take? ill check the web page got a link -edit- honda tech

mine never actually shut down... you rev and drive until the smoke stops. When the smoke stopped mine was running on 3 cylinders. Changed the plugs, started her up, life has been beautiful since. VTEC hits a lot harder now... The B18c1 is a work of honda art, I swear... IAB's open at 3800 and push you back in the seat a bit, then at 5700 VTEC hits, and from there to 9000 it's a cargasm... (Yes, I have an ECU chip, and yes, I have the engine work to support it)

lol well step one is to swap in a B18c1. Step two is to build it. Step 3 is to boost it. Step 4 is to change your shorts.
Tyrone 95SolSi
07-05-2006, 03:54 AM
<~~~~not wearing shorts =). thanks i will get the foam done quick question which plug wires should i get? i want blue but not sure what size where to get how much to spend thanks.

Nology hotwires. ;) check ebay for em
94SolGrl
07-05-2006, 03:42 PM
and just be sure to double and triple check the instructions on honda-tech for doing the foaming.. follow them to the letter. There's always a risk associated with putting anything but gas through your motor. If you do it wrong, you can cause a LOT of trouble. I printed out the how-to and had it with me for the whole process, and I can tell you, when the smoke first starts, it really is quite terrifying. Looks like a blown motor, smells like a blown motor, sputters, coughs, ticks a little bit.. it's a violent little process. So please be careful!
Tyrone 95SolSi
07-05-2006, 10:16 PM
i will be careful but if something does go wrong i will be in need of good deal on a swap ha ha! i found the plug wires those shyts are dope a must buy. which plugs should go with them? went to pepboys and found no ngk iridiums to go with my motor. do they make em? do i need em?
94SolGrl
07-06-2006, 04:40 AM
I've had pretty good experiences running Bosch platinum tipped plugs on mine. check around ebay for iridium plugs/good deals on normally expensive plugs...
lol I love ebay.

If you end up going with the Bosch Platnium's, don't wasit your money on the +2 or +4's, one pole on a plug is all you need, plus gapping them is pretty much impossible.
Tyrone 95SolSi
07-06-2006, 02:36 PM
ok so platnium is fine good now with the extra money ill just go get an iridium chain or grill or something -bling- MSD cap and blaster coil good?
AudioGuy93DelSol
07-06-2006, 03:25 PM
Haha iridium bling, I'll have to look into that one. And yes, the MSD cap + coil combo is good.

i did it. let me tell you when you see the smoke...i was a little scared for Iris. it didnt smoke for as long as i thought it would though. first i put one third in to the booster line idle was going crazy light smoke came up cut the engine put 1/3 into the crankcase last of it into the gas tank. it was harder to start. the smoke came up and i drove it hard for like 10 min but the smoke stopped fast. took it to get the oil changed, jiffy lube cleaned the fuel system for cheap(im like whats wrong with extra clean) before i did the seafoam i filled up on 91 and got 314 miles on 9.77 gallons thats better then the first post and driving the same way with a 114 mile trip in there(round trip). the header will be on before the tanks gone the shop wants 100 to put it on should i do it myself?? still got to put the plugs in. after this tank i was gonna go back to 87 to see the difference, should there be?
AudioGuy93DelSol
07-07-2006, 10:32 PM
Glad it went well. I think you should do the header yourself. It's not hard at all. Most difficult part is getting the old O2 sensor out. If it's the original, 9 times out of 10 it will break off in the old manifold, in which case you'll need a new one (~$50 on Ebay.) Anyway, you should notice a difference in your mpg and overall engine performance.

glad it went well :) Makes me happy. Paypal me the $100 and do your header yourself. ^_^ What? Moderation donation! ;)

ha ha ill get to that i still got to buy the jack and stands so im still out of 100 bucks but i get the joy of doin it myself it just feels good you know
AudioGuy93DelSol
07-09-2006, 08:54 AM
100$ for jackstands qualifies as getting raped, but either way, it's a good investment becuase you'll always have them to do anything else with.
94SolGrl
07-09-2006, 08:59 AM
I've been using the same 2ton hydraulic jack and pair of jackstands that I got from wal mart for $32 on clearance for the last 6 years. They are SOLID. Check wally world.

well well i put the bar a bit high i see. went to walmart the had a set for 24$ but i dont like red so i got the mack for 34$ jack, stands, tire chocks, and 14" lug wrench. yea and its grey ha ha

damn. 281 miles with 10.946 gallons :disappoin my car is now running smoother picks up better but the mileage wont pick back up. i think my o2 sensor is dirty with the whole seafoam treatment. waiting for denso sensor to come in then it and my header will be put on. any thoughts on what else i can do. thanks:crying:
AudioGuy93DelSol
07-12-2006, 09:58 AM
It could be the o2. If it's really old and dirty they can hurt milage. After you put your header on, reset your ecu. To do that, drive your car around till it's fully warmed up. Pull it in your driveway and shut it off. Unplug the negative battery cable and pull out the ECU fuse. Let it sit for about a min. Plug the fuse and cable back in, start the car, and let it idle for 2 mins. Don't rev it or do anything. The ecu will readjust itsself for optimum performance which should help the milage.
94SolGrl
07-13-2006, 04:26 PM
ahhh the memories of resetting the ECU... I used to have to do it just about once a week on my old b16 sol cause I was too poor to always put in premium. :(
And by the way, 26 mpg is not too shabby... just to let you know. I would kill for 26mpg. But the vrooooooooooooooooooooooVTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEC KSHHHHHHHH is worth the hurt. :D

not possible to put too much enthusiasm into it. B18c1+VTEC+13lbs of boost + WOT = :worshippy

wot? i know 26 aint bad but the reason i got the i/e is to bring up the mileage but its all good. side note i want a blue aem fuel rail but they dont make it for my intake manifold should i change to the y8?

dc header on denso o2 sensor now in. im going to post a great pic of my old header youll love it.
AudioGuy93DelSol

WOT = Wide Open Throttle. AEM dones't make a rail for the Z6? I thought they did. The one for the Y8 should work fine on your mani. Why are you getting one anyway?

Hahaha untill you get passed by the 300HP 1.5. Oh yes, it's a monster. I vote you build and boost a single-cam. Go with a D15B instead of a d16z6 as the 1.5 has a better r/s ratio.

and with all the money it took to make that 1.5 300hp, I could build my b18 to over 600. Oh wait... Now I remember why my car's in the shop again... ;)
AudioGuy93DelSol
07-25-2006, 01:41 PM
It actually wasn't that expensive. Used low comp. pistons and eagle rods and that's the only motor work done. Ebay turbo kit. The NepTune was a little expensive but worth every penny. Probably about $3500 all in all. 600HP does sound a little more fun though.
Tyrone 95SolSi
07-30-2006, 12:25 AM
what kind of hybrid is that? and whats r/s?
AudioGuy93DelSol
07-30-2006, 09:36 AM
It's a JDM D15B sohc vtec. They never had a D16Z6 in japan, so they got the D15B instead. R/s is rod to stroke ratio. Check this (http://victorylibrary.com/mopar/rod-tech-c.htm) out if you have some time. For our honda motors, 1.75:1 is perfect. B16A's have a 1.74 which is damn good. D16Z6's have something like 1.52 which pretty much sucks. With the smaller displacement of the D15B, it has a better r/s ratio, somewhere in the 1.6x range so it revs a little faster and there is less stress on the rods.

3500 into a B series motor gets you just over 425whp here in ATL. :P My next project is taking on the H2B kit. :D

AudioGuy93DelSol
07-30-2006, 09:48 PM
No, I mean H-series cable shift linkage, not clutches. But with that H2B you can have some real shift linkage.

H2B allows you to put an H or F series motor easily into an EG/DC chassis, because it is an adapter plate that allows the motor to bolt up to a B series drivetrain.. which basically means you get the torque and horsepower of an H22A4 (2.2L DOHC VTEC out of a prelude) with the limited slip, positive traction, better gearing, and better clutch of a B series (limited slip is type R thingies only) transmission and drivetrain... it's trule the best of all things honda put into one big hodgepodge.
And yes, I am crazy, Matt. That's why I'm the Honda GODDESS :D

because I want faster than the GSR... and the GSR will be for sale probably next summer in order to get this project rolling. You know you want DOHC boosted goodness... and hey, if you're in ATL at Tech (UGH... GO DAWGS), then you can race me and the freakishly fast honda!
