I have a 1996 Nissan pick-up (XE single cab), 2.4 L, 4 cyl., 4wd. It has about 125000 miles. My problem with this truck is due to sluggish acceleration and misses. After passing 2500 rpm, the acceleration is fine. I try to research on a similar issue but found no clear answer. I need help. What could be the problem?

drivability diagnostics are rather hard over the net....but if you want some generic possibilities. MAF sensors are always an issue with any MAF system, and they can sometimes cause symptoms as you discribe. Also check teh snorkel between the MAF and the intake, there must be no leaks, unplugged hoses, etc. although I think the nissan 2.4L had the MAF built into the throttle body.....not positive on that one.

But definitely could be ignition also. This is the type of situation where, you'd be better off (IMO) taking it to a shop and paying to have it diagnosed that guessing on component failure. Take care of any maintenance stuff you've been putting off, but beyond that, you lose more often than not by guessing and buying parts for it.

What is a MAF?

Mass Air Flow sensor. Measures the volume of air entering the motor and is the higher priority component the computer uses for fuel metering calculations.

well the MAF sensor is not in the throttle body, so would it be in the air filter box?

I finally got off my lazy butt and looked it up.

This system does not have a MAF sensor, which surprises me. Not many models use a speed density system.

I checked TSB's (technician service bulletins) on your rig, there is a lot of code related TSB's. If your check engine light is on, you need to find out what codes are stored.
