H&R Coilovers

Just wondering if anyone's heard of these and if they have them on their car. Saw a site selling them for a good price and was wondering if the are worth installing over stock struts/springs.

Oh well, no one here knows too much it seems. Got some posts at crsx stating that they're good and a bit soft. I think I'm definitely going to try them out and I'll post a review after they're installed

I recently installed H&R Sport springs along with Koni Sport dampers and I LOVE the results! Much better than ever - riding, handling, even shifting.

Don't have experience with the coilovers, but I think H&R is first rate, albeit not as well known as some of the other brands.

Yes, I saw your posting on crsx. Did you install them yourself? I'm thinking of doing it but am not quite sure of how time consuming this project would be.

Also, did you have to use any stock pieces on the new setup?

Yep. Was going to purchase them but something else came up and don't have the $$ right now. Definitely going to try them if they're still around for that price whenever I get some extra cash.

The install doesn't seem too hard either. I looked at the service manual and it's just a matter of taking off a few bolts here and there. Of course, once you get started it might take longer than expected!!!!!

Wow......forgot about this site, hence I didn't see your question until now. I saw your thread on clubrsx, but I don't remember now if you made a decision on these coilovers or not.

Yes, I installed them myself. Has proved to be quite an enduring project in fact. I started with the rear Konis, then the fronts later on (when I had more $). I was going to keep the OEM springs, then later found a set of H&Rs for cheap. Since they were among the least lowering springs around, I said "what the heck - gotta be better than those bouncy OEMs with 55K miles on them".

As far as stock pieces, yes, I did reuse stock pieces. I have the Konis and the Sport springs, so I don't know if you would need to reuse the same parts or not. For my setup, I reused the OEM struts (cut, of course, to accomodate the Koni inserts), the strut mounts, bearing, bumpstop, top metal and rubber retainers. I replaced them all with new parts, but they're all OEM. On the rear, I reused the original top hats.

This all took me quite a while, especially since it had been years since I replaced shocks/struts, and because I did the dampers first, and then the springs later. Not to mention that I have replaced the differential oil seal four times now since it started leaking after one of the installs. (I'm beginning to wonder if my differential is f-ed up. I can't believe I haven't placed the seal correctly at least one of those times!)

Did you go with the H&Rs?

No prob. No, I haven't bought them yet. I'll probably purchase them sometime in Dec/Jan. Someone on crsx said they could get me a good price on H&R's and someone else here said they could get a good price on Megans so that's why I posted on crsx. I'm leaning toward the H&R's though.

I've called a lot of places and only found one place that will do it. They were supposed to get back to me with a price after the installer came in but they never called me back.

Yeah, do it yourself - if you have the time and you enjoy that kind of thing. I didn't enjoy working on my own cars half as much as I have with this RSX.....

Coilovers should be a breeze, especially with a quality brand like Megan or H&R. Not sure if you even need a spring compressor with coilovers, I guess it depends on whether or not you reuse stock mounts...

Now I feel jealous - wish I had the adjustability of coilovers, especially for Winter/Summer adjustments.
