extreme ford focus RS

i have again returned after a short lay off, funny how you just can't stay away! anyhow, i got a hold of Tamiya's Ford Focus RS WRC 01 kit and decided it need a bit of something. my last model (a replica of my car at the time) was the first time i had scratch built a body kit, this time i wanted to add a bit more to my modelling knowladge base.

after seeing willmo's supra, i decided my focus would look good with a bit of that! only wilder!

i would like to appologise for the poor quality pics, everytime i build a new kit and take pics, they always come out crap!

i started by smoothing the body (removed and filled door handles and boot trim)
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/5448/10464590ce.jpg

i used GTI1800's "how to" for the deep dish pizza plates for the back, and then "hacked" out the rear wheel arch.
http://img287.imageshack.us/img287/264/10464627lp.jpg

it then came time to think! i used a very simple method to widen then re-attach the rear arch.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/1285/10464735jz.jpg

i have the wide arch now, i will be adding an air scoop to the arch, i have added a small sideskirt, just need to get the thinking head on next!

so i am now in a bit of a rut... what next?
i need to figure out how i'm going to blend the arch back in!
i need to figure out what i'm gonna do with the rear bumper!
i need to figure out what colour to paint the thing!
i need to figure out what (if anything) i'm doing to the front end!

anyhoo, here's todays progress in pictures!

thanks for looking, more soon

cheers

wow...widebody. :D

methinks you should try to give it a curved integration as well, given that the focus has a lot of curves, not straight edges. :D

a little more progress...

the body work is almost finished, just a little touching up around the rear of the arches needed, then onto the front and rear valences.

i have the wheels almost done too, they are now a very shiney gold.

i have cheated and made a couple of "half" exhausts and sprayed them chrome (no point in going into great detail, as this is a very static display model!)

i have also choose the colour of the body (or is that colour"S") it will be a two tone, front to back, very contrasting orange at the front and black pearlescent at the back. i have Peugeot seville orange and Honda nighthawk black pearl, and it'll be painted with a diagonal over the door...

so here's the progress in pictures... again, sorry for the poor quality (mabey i need to take some outside with natural light!)

wow.
looks really good.
are you going to widen the front too?
because i don't think it would look right if you don't.

boab

i haven't planned to widen the front... i tapered the side skirt in to meet the existing front arch. i'll see how it looks in primer before making a decision.. a decision that i hadn't really gave much thought to!

i don't think it looks that bad really as it is, the slight flare on the RS arches kind of goes with what i've done to the back, it kind of has the look of the V6 renault clio (slight flare at the front, huge flare at the back)

thanks for the comment though, and if it doe's look silly later on, i'll quickly appologise ;)

oh, well now that you mention it, it does looks like a clio.
don't worry about apoligizing, i'm sure you know what you're doing.

i really like this car, it looks really cool, are you going to be modifying the interior to make it (in my opinion) more complete?

as it's the rally version of the model, it's a stripped out interior, so i may have to "try" and scratch build one!

i was thinking along the lines of a street legal drag car, stripped out, but with toys! (screens, nos, PS2, etc...)

i'll see what i can manage

sounds so cool, i will be following this, as you can see, because i have a plant to covert a rally car to a drag car/street racer, and would love to see one first :grinyes:

well i'm glad to be a "guinea pig" for you!

i got the Nos bottles scratch built, and a PS2, i'll post pics later this weekend.

the body work is complete, but i still have a couple of things to touch up before primer, but nothing drastic, just a bit of filling and sanding and we're there!

next i start on the interior :naughty:

most of time now will be spent painting the small parts...

as i said, pics to follow soon, thanks for looking, and any other ideas as to how i make this car better?

cheers

ok folks, i've been fairly busy with this model, but still haven't got much done! tonight i put on the primer coat to the body work and started the interior.

progress since last time..

body work 99% complete, front spoiler on, rear valance done, arches and skirts done, some minor touching up needed then paint
interior started, Nos bottles done (needing wired), ICE install done (needing wired), dashboard screen installed, seat painted, and a load of minor things painted!

here's the piccies...

i cheated a bit with the ICE install, a quick visit to the sony xplod website, copied some pics, printed them out small, stuck them to some styrene sheet and cut them out... hey presto, scratch built subs and amps!!!

thanks for looking in folks, any suggestions, i'm all ears!

at last, we're beginning to get somewhere! that's it nearly done! no point in bleating on, i'll let the pictures do the talking :grinyes:

this is before the laquer stage... i'm afraid that it'll go wrong with the laquer coat and eat the plastic!!! i have given the first coat of laquer now, hopefully all is well!

here's the progress pics... (remember, none of the parts are actually assembled as yet, all loose fitted)

wheels...

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5011/10667126yz.jpg

as i said, i hope these pics are not the last of the car, i'm praying the laquer does it's job... so far it looks good, although it's only been on the model for about 20 mins, but no melting plastic so far!

it's really only construction now, and a few coats of laquer so i can buff it up nice and shiney. i have to say that when i started this, i had an idea of what i wanted, but i'm pleased to say that i have surprised myself and surpassed my thoughts! there are a couple of bits and bobs that could have done with a bit more time taken on them, but my impatience got the better of me again, although they are not that bad!

thoughts and comments always welcome

cheers

Nice paint! What paint did you use? Get that baby cleared and shiny! haha!

the paint is Peugeot seville orange on the front and Honda nighthawk black pearl on the back.

the good news is the laquer hasn't had an adverse affect on the plastic!! although it has made the paint on the roof go a bit funny! but a few more coats and it should be ok!

finished!

she got 3 coats of clear put on, just needs a little buff up on the roof and she's a beaut! i smoked the rear windows for effect and added some window decals. overall i'm well happy with my performance on this one, mabey not to the standard of some of you guy's, but i'm improving with every build!
