Retro VW Van

I was in the small town of Malacca in Malaysia about a month ago and I saw this cool VW van parked at the hotel I was staying in. Naturally I took some pictures of it.

Very psychedellic and rare, especially in this part of the world. It was very well done, with sofas and a table inside.

:)

Thinking of building a replica of it... if I can find a kit to convert.

My friend owns a 21 window of the VW Van. Naturally, I was asked to make a replica of his car, and he provided the kit. Hasegawa makes 1/24 kit of the 23 window, as well as several variations. Revell used to make 1/25 scale kit, also.

Yea. I checked with HLJ and 1999.co.jp sites but they do not have any left in stock. Will keep looking I guess.

I have the Hasegawa 23-window kit. I picked it up for $19 instead of $30 because the box was damaged.

I do believe Revell (of Germany?) had picked up/licensed the Hasegawa mold and is re-releasing the bus. I've seen them recently, but I never checked if it was 1/24 or 1/25.

My dad had 4 Kombis at the same time about 15 years ago :D I WAS BOUGHT UP IN A SPLIT SCREEN!!!You are right about that being rare, even for that part of the world, the split screens are worth around $25,000 AUSD in average-good condition.

I have that one at home, too.

But my wife don't let me to build it. She wants to build it yourself. :)

Let's wait and see what will happen. :)
