As many of you know my motor cw'd so I'm going to start gathering things to build a new one. Basically I'm thinking of two different routes and I would like some opnions on them. The first thing I was thinking about was a 6 bolt 2.3 stroker swap with the SBR stage 3 kit. Pretty straight foward there but I would need basically a complete 6 bolt and the kit on top of it. I was at LSE today and I was talking to the guys there and they suggested going for a 2.4 in that case I would need a 64 block and a 1g head and I dont know how much more complicated the swap is but I'm sure there are wirte ups all over. Is there a big selection for bottom end parts for the 64? Basically for the 6 bolt bottom end I'm looking at spending around $1700 for the short block and idea how much a 2.4L would be with similar ratings?(hold up to 800hp)

You have a pretty good selection when it comes to bottom end parts for the 4g64, I don't know too much about it because I haven't really done alot of research on bottom end stuff. But here is some stuff I do know.

JE, Weisco, and Ross make forged pistons.
The connecting rods in the 4g64 are the same as the 2g 4G63t rods, so nearly any aftermarket rod will work. But you may run into clearance problems because of the 4G64's rod angle. But thats nothing that can't be addressed.

That being said, will the extra .1L make enough of a difference to make it worth it?

IMO, no way. I would imagine fucking around with the block swap wouldnt be fun at all. Know what I think? Go 2.1 destroker. A little added displacement to help with the spool time, but you can rev way the fuck out there. That could be bad though, you would need a tranny that can shift way out there too.

a destroker would present all of the issues assoicated with the 2.4 plus I would have to have the entire driveline build to handle 10k+ rpm shifting. In the long run it becomes to expensive to be worth it IMO thats what I decided on a stroker. Mark from SBR contacted me and is going to call me and discuss what will work the best for me and the pros and cons of everything

IMO, instead of stroking a 63 to 2.3 I think it would be better to just go 64 because the 64 block is designed for 2.4 liters. I really don't know I just think it would be better to go 4g64 instead of strokin the 63 for reliabilty purposes. I really don't know what I'm talking about here but its just my thought.

The 2 liter and 2.4 liter blocks are practically the same, major difference is bore size. The 2.4 liter is really a 2.35. A 2 liter block with a 2.4 crank and an 040 or 060 (shit, can't remember which and don't feel like figuring it out when I just woke up) is the same 2.35 liters. Other major difference is 6mm taller deck, which will let you run a piston with the oil ring in the normal location on the 2.4 block.

IMO, the only advantage to dealing with the 2.4 block is that you can run stroker type pistons (wrist pin up in the oil ring) with a longer rod to end up with a stroker that has decent rod angles. Magnus started selling these motors a long time ago. My next build for the 2g was going to be one of these. If you aren't going to go long rod, might as well just stroke a 2 liter.
