92 Jetta clutch

How hard is it to replace the clutch? How much would it cost to get someone else to do it? I get a deal on most parts so factor them out.

I'm not positive that you have to do it this way, but I don't see how to avoild it. you will have to remove your half shafts, bumber, engine wiring,vacuum lines, and grill. Pull the engine and trans as a unit. Separate the halves and replace the clutch. Once the engine is on your garage floor, the job isn't hard at all. I imagine you could support the engine and remove the trans only, but there isn't much room. Good luck.

I think I'd rather shoot myself. Guess I'll save my pennies and find someone to do it.

I checked with a friend yesterday who actually repairs cars for a living (I'm just a weekend mechanic). It turns out that you can replace the clutch without pulling the engine. You'll need to remove the half shafts and trans to get to it. You'll need a couple special tools. 12 point metric (European) torx sockets that are available at autoparts stores for about $10 and a clutch alignment tool that you can get online for about three dollars. Be sure to have the flywheel turned and replace the pressure plate and bushing when you do the job.
