daytime driving lights question

My right side daytime driving light keeps burning out every couple of months on my 2000 silverado. Has anyone had this problem and found a cure?

I see this a lot, also on newer GMC Yukon's and Trucks, mine both still work after 14 months.

Have you found a solution? I just replaced my DRL's for the chrome colored amber bulbs and my truck just started doing it but instead of every couple of months my right side burns out in a few hours. Ive gone through 3 bulbs already. Any ideas anyone??

Perhaps a bad socket? I had the regular Sylvania whites in there for 2 years with no problems at all. I did notice that on both sides that there were "crimps" to the wires leading to the DRL's. Which leads me to believe that new sockets were wired in.

I have the orange DRL's now and i've had them for 3 months with no problems. I really like the all orange look across the second row....

What would cause a bad socket? Is it just the voltage being too high? I checked the voltage and both sides are equal at about 14V when the truck is running.

Bad Plastic? Long Run time? A flaw in the socket itself. Dust? Any of these things could contribute to a bad socket.

Is there a way to find out if its bad or not or should i just buy a new one and see how it goes? It is only the chrome bulb that burns out. I put in my old white ones and they seem to be fine for now.

Chrome Bulb? I would just find out what a new socket costs and maybe just buy one and see if that fixes your situation...maybe you could find one at a junkyard a little cheaper??? or ebay???

You know when i drive around town, I always see the passager side DRL burnt out. Seem to be across the board too, all GM trucks.

The bulb looks chrome when its off so that when you put it in you can't see the orange splatter giving you a clean look but it lights up amber. I called a dealership and they want 30$ for a new socket but at a salvage yard theyre only 5$ so when my regular white bulb burns out i will go buy a new socket somewhere.

When I had the stock bulbs in the DRL's they would burn out every couple of months, when I switched to the Ambers, they last longer.. a year or more. I think the ambers run cooler, so they do not burn out as much.

Even though we've covered it before, I'd say it's just another problem GM still can't get right. I believe it's something with the socket being too much amperage for the bulbs they chose to use. I had l.e.d's on and they burned out after a year or so. The wierd thing is they burned out at the exact same time. Those things are suppose to last practically forever.

That is weird. Is it possible that it only happens on 4WD Drives???? :screwy:

Perhaps the rougher suspension in those trucks causes the bulbs to burn out sooner? Just a thought as mine isn't 4x4 and it's only a half tonne.

I do not think that has anything to do with it. Most people with 4x4 drive trucks do not even use the 4x4 option on them. I think it is more of what Texas wrote. Another then to remember is that your DRL are on more so than your brake lights, headlights, etc... they may just burn out because of use. GM's best option would be to use a better burning bulb.. just my 2cents
