I landed this Hot Rod shop t-shirt gig cause they wanted toons and a printer sent'em to me so I'm pleased. It's gonna be one of those really busy shop designs so I get to have some fun with people, tools, animals, and cars. They wanted a 51 chevy with stacks and a Metro (which is always fun), and the other car was up to me. They had me at the shop a couple of times and I got pics of all the staff and all the cars in the shop. (very cool...just like Boyd except not as big or as neat or as....nevermind) in any case it was really cool.

I know you all already know this so I'll just show some sketches.

It's all real rough but I know there's somethin in there somewhere. I'm going to use these to put together a rough comp for concept and me and the customer can flesh it out together.

For the third vehicle I was thinking 49 Merc like they had in the shop but then I thought maybe a 32 Roadster from the back would look sweet. Still up in the air. I thought one of the dudes toolin around in a pedal car would be fun as well. I like the Nash so...We'll see.

Here's rough 51 number 1 and a not too toony Merc. I'll tweak it out in the next generation but for now it'll work...I guess.

I went after the 51 one more time as it is the main vehicle. I'll probably flip this so I can put the shop manager in it and make it kinda like a combo between the 2 I have.

I wanted to come in sorta like George Trosley but me (he's been a great friend since I was in art school)...you know...pay a little tribute...nibble but not bite.

Everything will be hand inked. Probably microns on paper. I might use a flair like Troz and I did toy with doing it all brush but I didn't want to have to make them giant to get detail (I'm a fat brusher...not brother....brusher).

So there you have it.

Cool doodles, the Metro is my favorite, so far.
Sounds like a great project.

Your toon characters look good too.
Are you gonna try for a "Krass & Bernie" look to the layout?

Wow, Lemorris... cool sketches. Brings back old times... 1964... I had to rebuild the engine on my Autoshop teacher's 1956 Metropolitan.... Wish I owned it, now. Can't wait until the finished product.... but have to -- Headed to China on the 5th with my wife and daughter for several weeks at the PRC's invite.... adios, all. Roboduck
