Revell 2006 Corvette Z06

Started on Revell's new Z06. Spent the better part of Tuesday evening sanding mold lines, but when I painted the body silver I noticed a good amount of waviness to the body, primarily the hood and front fenders. I already did a bit of rescribing; Revell's body molds just aren't up to snuff w/the Japanese. So there was an extra step of block sanding/repriming/reshooting the silver before applying the clear. However what you see paint-wise all was accomplished over a 4 hour period w/help of a hair dryer and dehydrator...prime (Tamiya white), color (Tamiya TS 75 Mica Silver), dry, micromesh 2400/3200, spot prime (airbrush), spot color (airbrush), dry, micromesh 2400/3200, apply panel lines, respray silver (airbrush), airbrush a few light coats of TS 13 clear, then a couple mist and wet coats of TS 13 directly from the can. I'll micromesh one more time and recoat the clear. I don't do the "wait X number of days/weeks/months 'til dry" deal w/my paint
Before painting I also removed the molded grille mesh and opened up the side vents to a better scale thickness.
Here she is; looks decent so far, and I like the Ferrari F430 "optional parts" wheels-considering how similar C6's and 360 Modenas and 550 Maranellos look. Got the wheel idea from the BBS rims on the LeMans C6R's. This will have a black/red interior. I may use some Ferrari seats as well. The factory Z06 rims from this kit will grace either a C5 or C6 convertible.

Yes, I agree the C6 has a very 360-esque front end treatment.
Have I missed another thread with a breakdown of this kit?
How are the Z06 wheels/tires? Pretty faithful?
6-pot brakes?
Are you going to paint the black trim around the wheelwells? How?
Looks sweet right now in silver with the wheels...can't wait to see it completed!

The Z06 came out recently; w/in the past month or so.
The wheels are pretty accurate; but they use the standard C6 tires; the rears are not quite as wide as they should be, but look good nonetheless. If you want better/wider tires gank 'em from a new Viper kit.
I haven't looked @ the brakes, not sure if they're correct or not. The battery underhood needs to be removed and replaced by a facsimile of the top of the dry sump tank w/an oil filler and a couple lines going to it.
I'll paint the black trim around the wheelwells just like I paint the black window trim; mask w/Tamiya tape and carefully apply Acryl flat black to the area. I'll probably airbrush at low volume/pressure to keep from bleeding.
Not sure if I'll keep the plating on the wheels or go for the painted silver look which is more accurate for CS wheels.

hmm, appears to the first use of the new mica silver paint.
got a close up shot?
what's it like in person?
i imagine it isn't flat like the silver leaf and gloss aluminium is (obviously, being a mica paint...)

No closeup shot. It's impressive in person, the mica flakes are slightly larger than gloss aluminum, it's a slightly cooler shade of silver than gloss aluminum. It has reasonable shine out of the can (and airbrushes well too) and after clearcoating/polishing it looks amazing (I don't have time to take more pics yet but the car is polished and the black trim is painted). Silver paintjobs aren't supposed to be this easy :sunglasse
If you look back to my 24 hours of LeMans build you'll see my Porsche 904 that was also painted Mica Silver. It's great stuff.

Looks great. Paint is impeccable, as we all expect, and the wheel choice is spot on. I didn't know the Z06 was out either, I may have to pick one up if the old lady lets me out of her sight today. Great work, I can't wait to see it come together.

slightly off topic but thinking about it, the mica silver is probably released for the coming SLR isn't it?

Looks nice so far, I am glad Revell did the right thing and released a Z06 kit. Now I don't have to deal with converting it myself! Hooray!

I made some minor progress this weekend on the Z06. On Friday evening I polished the body with 3600/4000 and Tamiya fine and finishing compounds. It's amazingly glossy; my pics don't show that off too well. I feel like I cheated; this was an easy finish to achieve with a minimum of effort. The Mica Silver is a cooler shade of silver than gloss aluminum. I also painted the window trim and aero spats in Acryl flat black.
On Saturday at Venabalooza (a few ACME and CARS members met at Veyron's house to build) I cleaned/fitted some resin racing seats I bought at the NNL East from Arrowhead Aluminum (they're supposed to be vending at our show  ) and will use some Museum Collection harnesses/belts on them.
I glued the engine/torque tube/transaxle together, did some minor work on the seam line, attached the other parts to the engine/transaxle that were to be painted in aluminum and shot them w/Krylon Dull Aluminum (which works well and didn't seem to affect the plastic). I also removed the battery and will fit an oil sump tank in it's place under the hood.
