Second heater behind the driver seat

Is it really worth to have a second one in the back? i mean my bloody heater core or heater rather leaked again and the fact that i was still working, i had to do something fast about it as my engine was rebuild and i am on Propane. Do we really need it? i have replaced those so many times "7th time in 2 years"

So i think i will remove the entire module this week end and will bypass the line and look for a 180 degree hose to bypass it. i have had other issue before such as line cracking or valves and more there is hoses laying around the van, more potential for leaks. But that is me ...

what do you guys think of it?

If you do not need it just bypass it.
Real cold weather would be the only time it needs used.
How is the propane set up doing on it.
There was a post on here not to long ago asking about propane conversion.

well the cooling system and all those cooling hoses run with your primary cooling hoses. anything else can be bypassed and as for the cold? in BC? lol ain't that cold in here, So i will remove this piece of hardware.

As for the Propane conversion? i did post a detailed information about it some time ago.

or i could post more detailed info about it and price and all.

10-4 on heater. That will be one less thing to worry about then.

did you ever try the 180 hose to bypass the heater core....ive had the same problem for years...i replaced the metal lines with rubber with dual clamps...still leaks a little...im thinking the core is dripping down on the lines. i never use the rear heat either, and would consider bypassing it myself if this works

ya using a 180 degree fitting works wonderfully. i haven't got the chance to get rid of the module or heater i should say, but i haven't got any leak so far.

I'd start wondering about the replacement parts. I've had one replacement core in a 21 year old vehicle, and my Astro jas had no problems in seven years. Seven cores in two years seems really excessive, and may indicate an installation problem (stress on hoses or the core from mounting) or replacement part quality problems. My '88 Astro went 12 years and almost 190K miles on the original.

Well the stress could be there as i mentioned previously in my post that i am a delivery driver with that van over 650,000 km? the van is running strong as ever, the heater core get some beatings from boxes that falls on it, tube, well you know, cargo moving around.
So in other words, i wasn't to impressed when it gave up.
I haven't remove the heater core yet as i am working on my project car, but i will eventually try to remove it maybe this week end:shakehead

Oh. I see. Thanks for 'splaining that. No doubt the "stress" is externally generated, and in your case, abandoning the core might be prudent if you can't fabricate some sort of massive, bullet-proof, depleted uranium, impenetrable cover for the core. Since your coastal weather doesn't require a second heater, your solution is probably a good one. I've found that at -30ºF the single heater (front) won't even keep the interior above freezing to keep the windows clear. You apparently don't have that issue up north.
