Base vs.Type S or Si

Newbie here. Geting ready to buy new wheels. Been thinking about a Base with five-speed and leather. But don't want to buy "short" and be major disappointed down the road. A new Si is about the same price, and I could always get a '03 to '95 Type S.
This'll be a daily driver. Just want a fun coupe with noticeably more balls than a Civic EX(or a Malibou). It'll never see the track, and I'm too old for street racing. Maybe down the road I'll add an intake, catback and some basic suspension mods.
I plan on hitting a dealer to drive both Base and Type S, as well as a new Si. But I thought I'd ask you guys. Club RSX sure wasn't any help. (Anyone else notice how many tools are over there?)
Thanks for your thoughts.

whicever you feel more confortable in, if you are really wanting to go with a little bit more performance and you want to add some mods to put out some more performance then get the RSX-S

Just get the Si. You won't be disappointed. Best bang for the buck out of all three.

I thought it was only 8,000, but still.

Si is the best out right now for the price. About the same price as a base with a modified TypeS engine, LSD, and nav system! Problem is that around here the dealers have to order them and you won't get any type of good deals on them.

You make a good point: For almost the same price of a Base RSX you can get the Si (without NAV), which has all the performance of a Type S.
Hopefully, I'll drive both a Base and a Type S this week. If I think the Base is enough car for me I'll go with that, and plan for a few mods down the road. If not I'll take a much closer look at the Si and some '04-'05 Type S models.
Appreciate your comments.
PS: I drove a Tiburon GT the other day and ruled that out. Maybe the six speeds are better, but the five-speed I test drove felt--I don't know how to say this--spongy. I'm hoping the RSXs and the Si feel alot better than that.

My co-worker just bought a Tiburon SE (manual GT w/ options). It looks nice and it is comparable to the TypeS. He was looking at the Si as well, but he got a nice deal on the Tiburon since everyone seems to want an Si.
I've also read up on Tiburons since he's bought it and it seems that a supercharged one is definitely quick!
Anyways, as far as I'm concerned I agree with RSX777 (glad to see he's back from the dead!)
Also, I read some rumors that the RSX is discontinued next year and to be back in '08 with ~250 hp and 4WD. Probably like the RDX. If that's the case, the price of the RSX is probably going to jump ~10k more.

I agree with RSX777 too (and if you were in fact dead, welcome back, and how did you do it? )
But this is the first I've heard of the rsx being on hiatus. 250 awd sounds pretty good to me! :bigthumb:

I'm still dead...but only on the inside. Alot of RSX rumors...I heard next year is the last year for sure, too. I suppose it just makes good marketing sense to rethink the role of the sport compact within the Acura division due to the progress of the Civic. Give me an Sti killer....please.

The RSX is dead, if anything i'm guessing a MY08 TSX coupe.

A TSX coupe would be cool and all, but way too big. There's already an Accord V6 coupe for those who need to lug kids and groceries and wanna have a lil fun too. A TSX coupe would just be a less-cool rebirth of the CL-S in a smaller package:frown:

Well I broke down and bought an '06 red Type S. Gave some thought to the new CIvic Si, but after driving a Type S I was ppretty much sold. I never even drove the Base model, yet alone the Si. I think I'll be happy with this, though I have to admit, for a couple grand less I probably could have learned to live the Si's dashboard.
Thanks for your advice.

Remember me? Bought a red '06 Type S this past Tuesday. Couldn't be happier. Never did drive a Base and probably hsould have, but I can imagine being happier than I am with the Type S.
Seriously considered a Civic Si, but didn't drive one of those either. I admit the look of the new Civic is growing on me, though I still have trouble with the Flash Gordon dashboard. I did drive a Tiburon GT, and that left a lot to be desired. Yeah, it's a really purrrty car, but I gotta believe my Type S would clean its clock. Also drove a 2004 Cicvic EX coupe with a five speed and, get this, saddle leather interior. 19,000 miles, excellent condition, and the dealer ewanted $17,200 for it, giving me about $1,200 for my '98 Malibou with 103,000 miles. Unfortuntaely, after a test drive I knew the Civic wasn't gonna do it for me. At one time I was thinking of an older Civic EX because I liked the look. Figured I could mod it up to 150hp, but learned otherwise on some of the Civic forums. That's why I started thinking of getting a Base RSX. I figured with 155hp, a few mods I could get it to 165hp easy. But like I say, once I droive the Type S it was case closed.
Thanks for your advice guys.

You didn't need to drive the base. From what you said you were looking for, the base would not have satisfied - you needed Type-S
