I just want to say thanks to XOtech for educating me about the McLaren F1 which I dream about everyday. I have notice you have a lot of knowledge and info in supercars, and I have some question for you regarding supercars that I would like to know the answers:
(1) Are there only 3 Mercedes CLK GTR road car in the world?
(2) Where are these cars located right now?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You all think the Saleen S7 looks like a remix of a McLaren F1 and a Lamborghini Diabolo?

Andyhks,
I don't want to get too far off track of the McLaren here in this thread, but to answer your questions...
SilverLotus, you are correct, there are more than 3. There were 25 of the original Mercedes CLK GTR made. They spanned from 1998-2000. If you study closely, you will notice small differences from version to version.
There are currently 2 cars here in the states. Neither one is legal for long term use in the states. One of the 2 cars went through an extensive process in an attempt to get the car to pass EPA regulations, but I believe that effort was unsuccessful. At least for now. I have seen 2 other cars here for sale at different times, but they were technically for export only.
It is a neat car, but lacks the finish touch of the McLaren. In race trim, both cars are very closely matched and very fast. Even the roadcar versions of the CLK GTR really don't compare well with the McLaren roadcar in overall useability and comfort. Up to the owner I suppose.
Hope that helps.

Sorry for carrying away... just want to know how the enemy of McLaren is doing on the street. I asked because my father was lucky to see one in person when he was participating in a Lamborghini and Ferrari gathering in Hong Kong, and some dude just drove up this CLK GTR for the gathering. Rumor suggested that the dude paid something close to 1.5 million (USD) for that baby, and of course it was totally street illegal too. I just think Hong Kong is the worst place to have a car like CLK GTR or McLaren or any supercars simply because there are no tracks in HK + the speed limit is 80km/h + automatic speeding camera all over the place... but ppl keeps on buying just because they can afford it...
Sorry, I got off topic again, just want to tell you guys my father's encounter...
Another question for XOTech,
Are there any future projects for McLaren to build other supercars besides the SLR?

Snowboarder, you are correct, the SLR is a Mercedes, but it will be built on contract by McLaren Cars, Ltd. The technology and innovation in the SLR could not be done cost effectively at the Mercedes factory. McLaren has the skill and experience to build the car and a deal was drawn several years ago.
There are other projects that McLaren is working on, but that information is not public knowledge at this point. Soon enough.
Andy,
Seeing a Mercedes CLK GTR is quite a treat, there were so few made and I would imagine that the car your father saw was the only one in Hong Kong. I have seen several here in the states (4 different cars) They were all here on temporary status and have supposedly been exported. I believe there are still 2 cars here.

You think the CLK GTR is ugly?
Ha, I personally think the Enzo is ugly (still an amazing car, but I think it is rather ugly)
My favorite supercar just happens to be the CLK GTR :D
My second is probably the Koenigsegg.
Oh well, neither of us will own either :D
What exactly is the SLR? I've seen some little blips about it, but no big writeups or much else about it.
