92 3.1 Lumina missing

I have a '92 Chevy Lumina Euro with 240,000 miles on it. Recently, it's been running funny. Sometimes, it's very difficult to get it started. For example, during the daytime, when it's hot outside, you have to have your foot on the accelerator to get it started. However, if you cut it off and wait until it cools off later in the day, it will start right up.

Tonight, I went out to crank it up after not even touching for about 2 weeks and it started right up. Then, when I mashed the accelerator, it seemed like it was missing. It would rev up but once it got to a certain point, it would sound like it's missing.

Before I stopped driving it, I also noticed that sometimes I could smell gas when I got in it. It wasn't a strong smell but it was enough for me to notice it. I'm thinking that this is possibly a fuel injector. It has backfired a few times but nothing lately. I thought it could be the timing chain but after looking here, I saw where JeffCoSlacker mentioned that if it was the timing chain, the car wouldn't be driveable, which I can still do if I wanted.

So, I turning to you all here. Does that sound like a fuel injector or is it something else? I would like to fix this problem. I had planned on getting rid of the car if it was the timing chain. But after searching, I don't think that's it.

the diaphram in the fuel pressure regulator is a problem in these. it cracks over time, allowing gas to be sucked into the intake. what you can do is pull the vacuum line off the fpr and have a partner cycle the key from off to on to allow the fuel pump to run. It you see any gas, the fpr needs replacing. I would also hook up a fuel pressure guage to check to see if its holding its pressure. I would almost bet that you have a fuel pressure regulator problem, or a leaky injector. You can alos do an ohm check on injectors, and get seom gm top engine cleaner for the injectors.
