Found a GTP...worth it?

So I found a GTP that I want...
Its a 2000, 114,000 miles, its a nice maroonish color, fully loaded except the bose speaker system...drives nice, super clean engine (I got to see it the day the guy traded it for a truck, the engine was clean when he dropped it off...no leaks nothing).
The whole car is very nice, I'd be trading in my 97 GP GT for it since the 97 is beyond repair :frown: that I want to do anyway.
The asking price is $7,900, trade in is $1,800, so it comes to $6,551 with tax title license lein fee and all that fun crap....worth it?
What kind of maintenance am I looking at weekly, monthly, semi-annually, yearly, to keep it in tip top shape?
What things should I investigate before signing my name anywhere?

Find out what your insurance would cost, mine was extra $1,000 for a GTP
That was enough to discourage me back to a GT.

Price looks fair. It takes a hit for excess mileage. Depending on the specific options it has which weren't mentioned the NADA average retail is around $7800.
Like any used car check it out thoroughly. Since you own a Grand Prix the same maintenance and what to look for is applicable.
Checkout the supercharger and drive belt tensioner system for noises. I recommend doing supercharger oil change annually. Good luck!

Price seems high. I paid $7500 for my 2000 GTX (GTP with SLP package, SLP exhaust, SLP hood and cold air package) Bose system HUD display and only 64K miles.

Try to find out if any work was done to the tranny.... At that milage the trans may have problems... If it needs to be replaced it will be big $$$$$

If you can swing it, sell your GT outright. Unless it's a pile with a gazillion miles on it, it's worth WAY more than $1800. I'd say it's a fair deal on that car if it's nicely loaded, and has good tires, brakes, etc... as it sits. Paying full NADA retail for a car needing attention, plus practically giving your 97 GT away, makes it not so good a deal.

JC, Wylie! How much are you paying for insurance up in Canada for your GT?
BTW - The original poster claims he is 17 y.o. so he'll get screwed either way on insurance regardless if it is GT or GTP. I had to carry my two sons on my policy, otherwise...ouch!

Very very screwed, in fact, it was quoted around $4,000 every six months for me...thats why it will be my "moms" car...*rolls eyes*
The GT I have now has so many problems...there is no way that it will sell for even $1,000 let alone $1,800 or $2,000...
I'm surprised they are giving me what they are for it.
I wish I could find a GTX...that would make me a very happy camper. I found a junked one but never knew what they wanted for it.
I'll find a GTX someday...how much faster are they?

$1,600 for the GT
$1,600 for the bike = 3,200 per yr, Clean record never made a claim.
O ya my house insurance doubled 250 to 425 per yr.
The quote I got for a GTP was $2,500 per yr.
Insurance = scam.
By the way congrats on your Moderator stat I noticed it a while a go thats why I've been trying to be nice to you.

I realize that is $CDN but man thats alot. I pay $298.00 every 6 months for full coverage ($1K deductible) on my GTP.
Thanks. Mod status? That was about 2 months ago. I'm still the same old Bob and I'm always nice to you guys. :evillol:

Well ya thats about what I paid when I had my 95 but when I bought my 99 thats what it when to.
And now their on a shared data base so if you go from one company to another they know what you've previously paid so they offer you very little break.
Scam.Scam.Scam one of the biggest ever.
My ex landload worked for an insurance company and hes worth $50,000,000 so tell me theres not something Fup with insurance companies.

P.S. My insurance has me listed as driving "2002 Pont. Grand Prix GT/GTP sedan"

Yep, here in Michigan, my insurance for a 2-dr would have been $300 higher every six months (I pay $580 for full coverage on my 4-dr, $500 deductible, no accidents or tickets in the last 8 years). GT and GTP made little difference (within $25). I guess family guys drive safer?

I hate to burst everyone's bubble on car insurance but here goes.
I pay $280 every 6 months for full coverage with a 1K deductble on collision/comprehensive on the GTP (4 door). The insurance carrier has a Gecko for a spokesperson.
I thought it was $298 but I looked at the policy. And we have these uninsured driver's from Mexico driving around.

I was just talking to someone here at work and it turns out its just Ontario with these crazy rates apparently Quebec'ers pay a 1/4 of that.
They just jacked up the fine here to $5,000 for driving with no coverage because so many people were driving around with out.

That really blows Wylie. The fine here for driver's without the minimum liability coverage is around $200 initially. Then you have about 30 days to produce it or procure auto insurance. Then the big fines and punishment start for failure to prove financial responsibility.

The price seems kinda high for the mileage. I'm in Chicago, Illinois and the cost of insurance was the same for a GT / GTP. Go figure. I pay $130.00 full coverage and I'm 24

Is 130.00 insurance for a month or six months? For two GT GP's for my wife and I we pay 612.00 every six months with a 250.00 deduct.
Thanks

The $130 is for every month just for the GTP and an extra $20 a month for my 1988 Corssica

Now thats getting closer to where mine is.
I was starting to feel like I was getting Fd so bad my butt was getting sore.
I'd like to know where the insurance companies come with these numbers especially when their making record profits.

Aren't you single Wylie? In the US the best rates are for married over the age of 25 y.o. with a clean accident slate and no citations. Plus the older you get the rate drops accordingly.
Also, rates depends on the state and county you reside in.

It all comes out in the laundry. If I had to do it all over again I would be single.
