Solara 99 tachometer just quit!

I'm new to this forum and need help and suggestions on how to correct the problem I'm having with my tachometer. The tachometer just quit. All of the other instruments work fine. I have checked fuses and found not that were blown. The only other problem that came up at the same time is the head lights on longer go off if you remove the key.

Toyota wants an arm and leg to check this out.:frown:
