Wow, I havent seen your car since...before you left for cali and I must say with those rims and that stance it looks sweet. What rims are those? IF you want any help on your dsm you know how to get ahold of me

If you keep skipping timing and bending valves then you must be doing something wrong. I've done many timing belt jobs and got them right on the first time and the car still runs as we speak, 30,000 miles later. Maybe you should look into someone helping you.

And i think i know i did wrong, i think it's the stupid t-belt, i didnt buy it from mitsu :banghead: , and i also noticed that it had stretched when the is hot. and i got everything new, auto t-belt tensioner, idler pulley and tensioner pulley. So i'll judt get this head fixed and a mitsu t-belt.

I guess the tires and the stance just set the rims off then..

Yeah, sounds like a possible auto tensioner problem to me. Bending valves sucks huh? So whats the score now?

gthomson 30 right?
Thor 20
longmoco ?

I know a guy from DSMstyle that bent 20 on his currect car and fuckin broke 3 in his old car plus bending more than he can remember. I think its funny how DSMers seem to detroy valves left and right. I really hope that new head is going to help. If it is, my current one is going in the machinist's ass along with my foot. Cant trust anyone with your car guys, do it yourself and make sure the shit is done right!

Keep it. Trial and error. Its all good. You learn from your mistakes. I've gone through a lot of motors since I started working on DSMs 7 years ago. I've toasted well over 100 valves. Blew atleast 10 motors, grenaded a couple trannys, yet I still have 3 DSMs that sit in my garage and still like working on them. Dont let a mishap like bent valves bring you down. If you need help, I have a valve spring compressor, order up some new valves and I'd help you pull the old ones out and put the new ones in. It wont take more than an hour or so. Either that or find a new head and that will work too. But if you need any help, let me know.

gthomson 30 right?
I just quit keeping score somewhere after 30, I'm sure it's looming somewhere around 50 though, hopefully it stays there for awhile too. :)

AMEN BROTHA!
I've got a buddies GS in the shop right now that just got a different tranny and 4 sitting outside waiting to be tinkered with. I'll be installing my 7th complete motor in my RS in a couple weeks, I've gone through about 3 different heads on one block, 3 trannies, I'm on my second motor in my TSI AWD, and my second tranny. I've painted 3 DSMs and done bodywork on probably 5 of them. And I've been doing all of this for about 5 1/2 years now. And no, I don't beat the hell out of things, I just had some really stupid/unlucky mishaps in the first few years that cost me a few motors. Sometimes I feel like I should know everything possible about these damn cars, but I learn more and more every time I tear into something, and I love it.

:werd: I love learning things, its just that when you get the opportunity to learn something about a DSM, its because you or someone else fucked up and it costs money. For example, first time I pulled the head it took me roughly 20 hours. Now, I can have the bitch off in about two and a half if I take my time, a little less than 2 if I am in a hurry. Still takes 5-7 on the install though, thats mostly because I work slowly and delibrately when I am putting it back together. I used to bag all the nuts and bolts that came off it and read the Haynes manual like it was my life force, now I know which bolts are for what because I remember what size they all are and I havent done anything but check the torque specs for cam gears, crank sprocket, head bolts, and turbo/manifold bolts since I tore it down the first time. This forum has helped me out soo much, its not even funny. I can remember being a straight up ricer noob when I first started on imports to hopefully being able to call myself a productive member of the DSM society. Asking a crap ton of questions and not being afraid to get dirty, break shit, and fix shit is how you will learn about these cars.

I've had a few of those over the years (or a bucketfull actually). Usually 1 or 2 isn't bad, but sometimes I had like 6 or 7. Then you really start to worry what is really going to happen when you start it up.

Holy guys. I dont have any "what the fuck" bolts. I am missing a couple, (missing two of four little 10mm bolts that hold the metal timing belt shield things on, the first machinest that had my head only sent 2 back) but I know what where they went. That and I have a shit ton of exhaust manifold studs. I took my stock ones out and got all/most of the ones from the guy I bought the exhaust manifold from. I didnt use any of them though, I took a page from Garretts book and and running hardened bolts from the hardware store.

EDIT: EVO TIME!!! Makes me want to go impregnate someone, that way I have an excuse to buy a 4 door "family" car!

I took a page from Garretts book

I didn't know I had a book.....:dunno:

I usually don't end up with any WTF bolts anymore, but I used to get a shitload. And then as I would work on my car more and more, I would see all these missing bolts, so I sorta figured out where they all went one day and put them back in. I still have 3 coffee cans full of them though :smokin:

A while ago I asked about what to do with the fuckin exhaust manifold studs. You said you usually just used bolts from a hardware store... so I am as well.

Still dont know how people get a bunch of WTF bolts, its kinda funny though. 3 coffee cans full Garrett? I have a few extra, but they are on purpose. For example, the intake manifold stay and the timing cover. Fuck if I am going to spend that damn much time trying get a fuckin cover on, that bitch stays on by the 4-5 easiest bolt holes to get to.

Last time I had a WTF bolt was when I was 12 or 13 (I’m 22 now) I had one bolt left over after replacing the water pump on my Mom’s station wagon. Haven’t had a WTF bolt since.

Oh how I love WTF bolts... I have a whole box of them and I'm sure I'll find new homes for every one of them someday.
