Has anyone tried to convert a 88 jetta from R-12 to 134A. I couldn't find any port adapters that would fit the factory low and high ports.

You can usually find them at a chain automotive store. If you don't have a professional evacuate the R-12 you can get in serious trouble. Drain your A/C oil out and use ester oil (4.6 oz) when you refill it. If you flush the system prior to filling it doesn't matter so much which oil you use. It's better to have it done despite the extra bucks. It can prevent you from getting into trouble later.

I've been trying to refill my car with 134a. It's an 89 bmw 535. The thing is there must be a leak because all the freon is gone after I filled it. When they talk about leaks, what is it that's leaking? Is it just the rubber seals like the ones in that caps? There's isn't too many places. There are spots where the ac lines come together by being compressed with a big nut. How would I find out where to find the leaks?

If you have access to a UV lamp get compressor oil (or freon) with UV indicator. If not, you can get the oil that has red dye in it. Charge your system with the oil and then the freon. It sound like you have a serious leak. Check for noise when you fill the system. also, you have to have the A/C turned on full blast when you check your system. The first place I'd check for leaks is the R-12 to 134A adapter.
