1998 Cavalier Door Latch How to Replace?? HELP!!!

One day my door latch decided it would stop working. The door is basically always locked and will not go to the full unlock position.
I can hold the lock/unlock lever and pull the handle to get out OR hold the key to the unlock position (with resistance) and pull the handle to get in.

My question is: Has anyone ever changed one of these? Please give step by step instructions on doing so. I already know how to remove the window crank and take the door panel off.

Thank you!

More than likely its the lock rod. It really does depend on where it is getting hung up. If all else fails, get the rod and the latch from a junkyard car...

I've pulled it apart once already and nothing is hung up, it seems to be the latch itself. I am picking one up from the boneyard tomorrow.

My question is how to replace it more than it is a question of how to troubleshoot the issue.

But, I really do appreciate any and all input.

It has 3 Torx 27 bolts holding it the door, and a bunch of snap locks that I have yet to figure out how to remove that hold all the rods to it...

Let me know if you happen to figure it out.

Anyone else have any knowledge of this?

Raise the window to the full up position.
Remove the inside door trim panel.
Detach the water deflector enough to access the lock actuator.
Disconnect the outside handle-to-lock assembly rod.
Disconnect the lock cylinder-to-lock assembly rod.
Disconnect the inside handle-to-lock assembly rod.
Unfasten the lock assembly screws/bolts and remove the lock from the door. If equipped, detach the electrical connectors.

Thanks!
Those pics are great.
I just wish removing the rods from the latch was a little bit easier.

Not to mention, you can't really see in there due to obstructed view of the door shell.

At least now I know to unbolt it LAST, maybe that's the mistake I was making before when trying to acquire one from the bone yard.:banghead:
