fuel/sc oil

i recently purchased a 97 gtp and i know you're suppossed to use premium gasoline in it, but if the person before me only used regular, will it make any difference for me to use premium now? or is it too late?
also, he SAID that he just changed the supercharger oil, what would be a total of about 5,000 miles ago now....but we just changed it and it is BLACK BLACK!!!! is there any specific problems that could cause this or did he probably lie and its just old age?
how accurate are the digital gas/mpg gauges? thanks

Using regular will cause so much KR (knock retard), that any theoretical savings by using cheaper gas will be off-set by bad milage and performance. Stick to at least 91 octane to prevent engine damage due to ping and knock. The DIC in my 99 GT is pretty accurate on mileage figures. I believe the S/C oil is pretty dark right out of the bottle, but I'm sure someone who has a GTP will correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the last time I bought the S/C oil, it was kind of clear. Its about 8 dollars per bottle at the dealership(first thing i found on which dealers dont rip u off) and our cars take about 1-1/2 bottle.
I use premium fuel and last i checked, I got 28 mpg on highway.i think with the power and mileage you get with premium, I will suggest u go with premium.
I think my DIC is pretty accurate too on mileage.

yeah, it is clear to start with.....what im asking is if there's any particular problems that will cause this to turn so dark or is it only caused by age?
and i know you're SUPPOSSED to use premium, but like i said, that guy wasnt, so will it do me any good to go back to premium or is it too late to try adn worry about it? (im getting 25/26mpg mixed hwy/city on regular)

IF you want to fuly enjoy the performance of your GTP, use premium. As far as the S/C oil goes, it sounds like the guy lied about changing it.

Ok, to start GM supercharger oil in the 3 ounce bottle is clear in color. Depending on the total miles on the supercharger and how long it has been without an oil change the color will vary. Since I do mine more frequently than most mine comes out a light-medium amber color. However, it could be perfectly normal to see a dark brown or black color.

GM does not have any specified oil change interval for the supercharger. All they recommend is checking the oil level every 30K miles. To be safe change out the SC oil annually or every 12-15K miles.

Before jumping to conclusions I would recommend replacing the SC oil. After about 6 months or so check the condition of the oil. Then a further assessment can be made whether you have internal problems.

If it ain't broke then don't fix it.
