My 1996 VW Jetta GL 2.0 with fuel injection developed a sizeable oil leak. I changed the oil pan gasket but it still leaks. The leak appears to be coming from the oil filter assembly. This area is quite tight to completely see but i checked the filter and it was not leaking. Has anyone experienced an oil leak from this location and also what is the proper term for this part. The oil that is leaking is very clear and not dark like you find in the pan. I loose about a pint per day of oil and would like to repair it myself. The leak cannot be seen from above but can be seen from underneath, it drips down the engine block and onto the oil pan.

You can never really tell much from the color of the oil. There is a gasket between the oil filter holder and the engine block. You may have a lube oil cooler in between the block and filter holder as well. This is an unusual place to have an oil leak. Check to ensure that your sensors are connected tightly (18 ft lb). Also check to see that the filter is tight. You may remove it, run oil around the gasket then reinstall. It should be firmly hand tight.
