Consider that if the technology from that car makes it to the mainstream, all cars will be much more efficient. If they can make a 3k mile per gallon test car, then a couple hundred mpg is certainly possible. I'd bet the big oil companies will squash any attempt at getting that technology into the mainstream.

They've had 1000's mpg cars for years, it's nothing new. Hell, I've got the design (need the electronics engineer) for making your car run on 100% tap water. Oil companies, though, kill anyone that gets in their way.

that's pretty sweet. the only problem is that when the demand for gas goes down becuase of this new car, the opil companies will make gas a few hundread dollars per gallon.

I disagree. They'll make their money selling oil for a longer time. If alternate fuels come into play first, they won't make money on their oil for as long. Its the car manufacturers (and parts builders) that fight fuel economy standards the most.
