Hey all, I just got back from a trip to mississippi to help out with the hurricane relief. I went to Hattisberg, about 75 miles from gulfport, to build roofs and stuff.
one question, how the hell do you guys live with that weather? we were getting like 105 degrees, not including the humidity, on the ground.
anyways i had fun but i think people need to be aware that there are places that are still completely devastated by the hurricane. i know there are many who've forgotten about it but if you visit any place on the coast, i went to Beloxy (sp), you'll see that there's barely anything standing. it still appears as though it happened yesterday and yet it's been months. The funny thing about it is that the first things being rebuilt there are the casinos.
anyone here live there or have family that got houses ruined by the hurricane?

Biloxi. I don't know anyone living there now, but have visited the area. When you're 3' above sea level a mile from the ocean, you're going to get hit.
A neighbor of mine from the local police department went down with several other cops for about a month to help out last fall. He said the devastation was incredible.
It will take a long time to rebuild; that is, if Mother Nature allows the time before the next hurricane.

I got a few friends from New Orleans, all their shit is gone. Most of their families moved to the Houston area. I've heard reports about how the casinos are the fastest things to be rebuilt. I don't understand why. Are they economy boosters? i don't see how they possibly could be. And who the hell has money to gamble when you got no damn house??? Except the people scamming FEMA for all that money:disappoin

Ya know, I sympathize for them losing all their shit, but when they move into my neighborhoods and areas and act like I owe them something...they lose all respect. We gave them free housing, free food, and lined up jobs for them(regardless of whether or not they took them), so to go and act like I'm a piece of shit and owe you everything in my pantry......you can suck my dick. I'm sure not all are like that, but majority of those I've come in contact with flaunt the fact they lost their shit and demand food and money from me. Fuck them.

I live in Florida and my house got flooded two years ago by a hurricane. It was the year that like, 4 hit central Florida. Anyway, most of our stuff was destroyed and my mom had insurance, but they pulled that thing where they said it wasn't the hurricane that did the damage, but a flood. And we didn't have flood insurance, so we got screwed.
Luckily, my new stepdad makes a lot of money and bought us a house...
I never really thought they were bad until that happened. Even seeing the damage on TV, it never really hit home. I go around with the red cross and give out things now. Hurricane season is starting again, so I'm sure I'll be busy soon.

Bingo. I've heard alot of stories of them coming to Dallas and starting shit. They need to be glad they're even somewhere that they don't have to paddle everywhere. I know they're not all that bad, but some of them are just some ungrateful bitches, using the "OMG I WUZ IN UH FLOOOOOD" excuse to boost their poularity, expecting to get some kind of sympathy.

They did in Houston. My dad talks to cops in the buildings he's in and out of all day and they all tell them how much busier it's been since the Katrinians.
A lot of the high schools had constant fights too.
I hate whenever I hear someone say $2000 isn't enough. A guy called a local AM talk show, Chris Baker, here a few weeks ago when he was discussing the FEMA fraud and misuse. "He asked how can we get by on $2000." Chris Baker replied "Well when you have a years free rent and utilities...." And don't even get me started on the whole "I can't find a job" thing. Everywhere I looked when they got here I saw now hiring, and still do.

I was almost certain I'd get flamed to death for bringing that up.

Seriously though, unreasonable people are unreasonable people, no matter what they've been through. Having a bad attitude when people have gone out of their way to help you after a tough time just shows what kind of person you are.
