Anybody have detailed instuctions on how to remove a GTP Tranny?

loosen lug nuts, remove cv axle nuts (34mm i think, its been a while)
jack up front of car
remove tires
disconnect cooler lines from radiator
remove trany pan and drain all fluid (less mess afterward)
put trany pan back on
place a wooden block between jack and pan or prefably use a trany jack
remove the air filter housing and disconnect hose from throttle body
remove bolts around bell-housing i belive 8 (i think) 18mm bolts, they got one stubborn bolt that you can only get to by coming behind the engine from the passenger side
remove the starter (make sure the battery disconnected)
remove the torque convertor bolts (i think 3 of them) to get to each bolt you have to turn the flywheel, i used a pry bar
**it helps to take off the brakes and rotors**
remove the cotterkeys from the a-frame bolt, and take out the nuts
disconnect the sway bar (i think 13mm)
knock the a-frame loose by hitting the side with a hammer
remove the cv axles
remove the trany mount on the passenger side (2x 13mm bolts i think)
disconnect the speed sensor
disconnect the other harnesses on the driver side and pop off the gear select cable
unbolt the sub-frame on the driver side (i think 15mm bolt)
pull the trany out from the driver side fenderwell

^^im sure i left out something but thats basically it

this is assuming a 4t60e trany, if your replacing it make sure you keep the side cover pan, the gear selector link (one 10mm bolt) and the lower pan incase you damage the new one installing it

also... if your going to rebuild the trany, i'd recommend going with a shift kit and an aftermarket cooler... they pay for themselves in time

i just remembered you got to remove the dip stick its a 10mm bolt

^^^ not bad pulled some before? I don't do anything with the brakes, starter or the sway bar. just my 2cents~ they are 15MM nuts for the tranny mount and dont for get the engine mount nuts they are 15MM. what are you using to support the engine?

i've pulled a few, i seem to have bad luck with the 4t60e tranys i replaced one in a 95 grand prix, 95 beretta, 97 cutlass, all 3.1s i wouldn't imagine the 3.8 would be much different since its the same trany

you don't have to completely remove the brakes, just take the caliper off and pull the rotor off, it makes it easier to get the cv axle out since you don't have to bend it as much, extra stress isin't good

i also remove the sway bar for less stress

for engine support... im out of ideas

Thanks for the detailed instructions. If I remember right you do have to have the engine supported when you remove the cradle.
