major no start overheating issue

Well, my water pump was slighty leaking (had to add coolant about once a week). All of a sudden the leak got real bad. I had to add coolant twice in one day. well on my way home from work at 12 30 at night it was overheting, the gauge wasnt pegged out at all, then the engine started clattering and died. well i towed it home and put a new water pump on, reset the timing and tried to strt it up. it doenst start. it just makes a high pitch whirring sound, like everything is moving but not starting. it almost sounds like a compression problem. IT HELP WIT THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED
