hi, im soon to be getting two 12in Sony Xplod Subs which is going to be a 1200W system...i was just wondering if im going to need a new alternator?? the car that im driving is a 1998 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L SOHC

Just so you know that will not even be close to a 1200watt system. What amp are you looking at, and where are you getting the subs and for how much. You can get 2-12" assasins from www.ascendantaudio.com. These would crush anything from sony, they would sound better, and there only 75 a piece right now. Im pretty sure fryman, paul or any of the other members would agree on this.

You won't need a new alternator. SUVs have to have strong ones cuz they typically run a lot of electronics & such (it may be carlike, but it's still a truck). Don't buy sony either. just about everyone i know that's gotten sony subs paid no more than 100 bucks new and used and they all blew within a month and a half. Home audio is their forte IMO.
