What class does my project fit into?

I have a 1972 Datsun Z and am transplanting an SBC into it. I thought I could run in Street Modified but it says that the engine must match the car and since Datsun and Chevrolet don't I can't run it in that class, which is BS in my opinion because it gives the example of an Eclipse being able to run a Mitsu or Chrysler motor so they can run a 426 HEMI but I cant have a 350. So with that motor would I have to run in Prepared or Modified or is their a way to get the car approved for the Street Modified class?

It would be a modified class. And no, a Mitsubishi can't have a Chrysler motor in it. The chasis and block manufacturer has to be the same.

Modified class eh? Oh well could be worse. I will have to put a different car together for Auto-X then. And I meant to put Eagle Talon instead of Eclipse, as that is the example given for joint venture swaps in the rules on Page 114.

you can run that in XP, they allow for engine swaps out of car family... and it's an only slightly harder class than SM2

well, the Talon couldn't run a hemi because there's no FWD transmissions that bolt to it and drivetrain conversions aren't allowed in SM. Also, it's not like it would want to. That's too much weight and torque for that chassis.

Anyway, if built properly the Z could still be a competetive Mod class car and most regions don't get a lot of competitors in that class so if you enjoy bringing home a local trophy almost every weekend, you could have a lot of fun with it.

I didn't mean for the Talon to be my argument for a V8 in my car just as an example for a V8 in SM2. And where would I find the rules for this XP class I am interested in reading them.

I foundd the XP rules very open and few restrictions, I think I will build my car for that class then, even though it will be street driven vehicle as well.

u can run an eclipse in modified with a chrysler motor, the stock eclipses have chrysler motors in them, it's the same engine thats in the dodge neon 95-99. no if u put a hemi in there, no u cant race it, street modified i believe, is a street car modified to meet safety requirements and other items like that, but must appear stock
