How To Disconnect/Turn off A/C Pump?

Ok, I have a '93 Probe. 5-speed Man. 4-cyl 2.0.
Does anyone know how to either disconnect or turn off the air conditioning pump?
The a/c goes on whenever its on Defrost, Mix, Or Floor (and max/norm a/c of course). It doesn't matter if the tempature is @ hot/cold and I can feel the preformance drop, along with the m.p.g. drop even when I am trying to get the ice off of my windsheild.
In the manual there is a fuse labled only "Air Conditioning" but if I take out the fuse (to kill the a/c), the car doesn't start. Also I can't really tell where the power wire is going to the a/c.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated, considering gas prices these days!
