valve cover bolt torque?

Hi there, I have an 84 Marquis, was wondering if anyone knows what the torque needs to be on the valve cover bolts? Thanks!

Hi there:
Over the years I have spent as a mechanic I have found that you need to make sure that the bolt holes are good and flat (not bulged from over tightening) and make sure to look down the length of the vailve cover to make sure that it flat, not bent or twisted, once that is done make sure the surface is good and clean put the new gasket on with a light coat of silicone sealer on valve cover side (primarily for holding it in place) and once this is done place the valve cover back on the engine, run the bolts in by hand until they just pull down the cover (evenly) to the engine at this point I just do 1/4 turn on the bolt to snug it down. Most people tend to over tighten valve covers and pan bolts and as a result bend the holes around the bolt and crush only that part of the gasket.
If by chance you get a little leak after that then just add another 1/4 turn to the bolt.

8-12 Nm (71-106 lb/in)
Install the gasket into the valve cover and position the left valve cover on the cylinder head and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown:

The only reason I replied the way I did is that most people don't have inch pound torque wrenchs, and I have in the past check the method I use against a torque wrench and it comes out to about 50 to 60 inch pounds of torque on the first 1/4 turn and the second puts it up to about 100 inch pounds.
It's just a laymans way of doing what the torque wrench does. and on a chevy (because of real flimsy covers 100 inch pounds would be to much).
