Same here. I average ~17mpg per tank for normal day to day driving. ~21mpg can be reached on highway runs. 3.42 gears. This is normal, maybe even high-end for avg MPG for a full framed, truck based, part time 4x4 vehicle. You will not find a comparable truck with better MPG.

Look around. With the price of gas so high, you can probably find a newer model really cheap. I read one story about a big spike in the number of SUVs being "stolen" and torched -- their owners want out from under the loan or lease so bad they're willing to risk insurance fraud! Lots of motivated sellers out there...
I get ~14 mpg in town and ~18 on the freeway. I have an EXT and with 3 kids, it stays pretty loaded down. So yeah, mileage stinks, but it's not like I didn't know that before I got it -- it's an SUV; they all suck down the juice.

Yes, they are a great used buy. The newer the better, and IMHO, the fewer the options the better. That insurance thing is scarry! :uhoh: That's funny because my insurance costs for my 2005 TB are cheaper than for my 2001 ford windstar!

I've never been a fan of SUVs at all, but I love mine (02 LTZ).
As for the gas mileage, I'd say it is horrible, but that is my coming from driving a 2.0L 4 banger "econo-turd" Eagle Talon that got upwards of 32 mpg highway and 23 city. Where as you are LUCKY to get 23 mpg on the highway.
I am used to getting 4-500 miles per tank as opposed to 250-300.
Aside from the gas issue and that this thing is (for me) a vandalism magnet, I love it.
2 weeks ago: Egged, multiple eggs with the windows down (yeah, it's on the leather)... 2 days ago, passenger side front door became a punching/kicking target... nice new dents.

i get 18.6 in houston traffic. i drive 30 miles each way to work. the last time i was on the open road i got 24+. i traded a 3/4 tom custom van with a 40 gal. tank that got 8-10mpg. great ride but who can affort that. i am happy with my tb. i have had mine for two years now and not one problem. currently 37000 miles of very hot bumper to bumper city driving on houstons freeways.

I've got an '02 LTZ with 60k miles. I have had it for 3+ years. I am pleased in almost every way with this vehicle, the comfort, looks, power, and reliability are second to none. The mileage is what bugs me. I know, I shouldn't complain, getting 17 in city driving and 23 on the highway, but I feel Chevy could have done better than that.
I would recommend this vehicle to anyone and I often do. It seems 17 & 23 mpg is pretty much the average for TB's.
