Turn Signal Problem

My friend has an 2002 Grand Am and has an annoying problem with the turn signals. The dash starts clicking as if the turn signal is on, but its not. It doesn't even click in even intervals, its just constant, random clicking. Is there any easy way to fix it? She took it to the dealership, and they said they would have to replace both turn signals for a $100 deductible. Is it worth it? Its just out of warranty. And, I heard there is some sort of recall with this problem, but I'm not sure on the details. Thanks for the help.

There is a TSB and GM recall out on the problem. It calls for replacement of the flasher/hazard relay. However, that fix has not resolved the issue for some GA owners. In those cases it was the multifunction switch (turnsignal stalk). But the fix in the TSB is the best starting point.
GM recently sent out notices to various GM "N" body car owners that extended the warranty for that specific problem only to 10 years or 150K miles, whichever comes first. Contact Pontiac Customer Service to see if you qualify.

I have the EXACT same problem with my wife's 2004 Grand Am SE. I'll be contacting pontiac to ask about that right away. Thanks!

You may be having the same problem. Don't give the dealership any of your money, it's simple to fix yourself.

I had the same problem with my 2.4L 2000 Grand am and I took it to the dealer and had the hazzard switch replaced. The only problem is it kept making the ticking noise like it was on, but it wasn't. I took it back to the dealer and they told me it was the mulit-function switch and it would cost me $475.00 parts and labor...WTF!!..is what I thought. I did some investigating and fixed the problem myself. I took my multi-function switch off and sprayed the contact points down with WD-40 took care of my problem has been working great ever since.
