Left rear speaker not working.

The left rear speaker in my 1994 Q45 is not working. Changed head unit and still have the problem. Does anyone have a clue what might be the problem. It is my understanding that each speaker is individually powered by an amp. If so, is the amp built in. I looked in the trunk and it appears that the amp is separate from the speaker. HELP!
