I am putting in a new radio. I cant see what wires are witch. I cant even get power to the head unit. All fuses are good. Do I have to have the door shut to make it work. Its a 95 cavalier. two door. I dont know what any of the wires are and i dont have a manual. If somebuddy knows what to do or knows what each wire please let me know. If you have the book and a scanner or a digital camara could you take a picture of the wire diagram in the back of the manual. Email is [email protected] thank you very much

by putting in a new radio i take it that its an aftermarket headunit? i'm not to sure how you cant see which wires are which. the door doesnt have to be shut for it to work either. did you wire all the wires correctly? because if not then that could be your problem right there.

make sure you have a GM wiring harness to adapt to your deck, all the wires are color coded and pretty easy to match up to any deck. go buy yourself a GM wiring harness and some crimp on connectors, the wires on the new harness should be labeled correctly (via color code and some printed) to what gives u power, accesory, dimmer, pwr antenna, speakers etc. if the process is to complicated bring it to an audio shop and have it done professionally.
you might want to check online for a wiring diagram for the deck as well, if things still dont work out, make sure your crimping the right wires together.

does the door have to be closed...??
are you serious?
have someone do the installation professionally or do a few days research before your next attempt.

yeah they used a ford on that video. it alot easier to install a radio on a ford then a chevy. i mean when it comes to removing the stock headunit. on our cavs we have to take the whole damn dash apart, where on the ford all you have to do is take the radio straight out. took me half the time to do my mustang vs. doing my cavy. but yeah when it comes to the door having to be closed??? lol thats something new.

Dude dont try to tell me. You may have to take it to a pro but I dont I have done this for years just never to a chevy. Most chevy's you cant wire with the door open cause it shuts power to the radio. Ok and The jackass who tried before to put a aftermarket unit in cut the clip off so the whole wire harness wont work. I have not even started to wire yet cause i cant get power. Fuses are good. Cant find wire diagram on web and not buying a book just to find out what wire is what. Thanks to all but chuck He is the reason this board is not worth posting on.

what an idiot... i tried to help you.
closing the door doesn't cut power you dumbass.. and if you act like a newbie i'm going to treat you like a newbie. now maybe if you stated that the previous installer screwed it up and gave some details, we wouldn't think you were a fuckin fool.
i installed my own shit twice thank you...........
of course in an 89, you don't have to remove the whole dash, just the faceplate.

try to tone out the lines, speaker lines should be obvious. turn the ignition into the on position and use a voltage meter to figure out which line is getting power with the car. and turn the car ignition to off to see what line is getting power when the car isnt, now you have the power line and the accesory line.
dimmer isnt to important to find but it can easily be toned out in the wire harness adjacent to your cluster piece, you can also use a toner to find the ground wire.
if you dont have a toner use a wiggy or an ohm meter.
secondly, find out whoever cut the factory wiring harness out, and smack them repeatedly.
