Mechanical Fuel Pump

I own an 88 pickup with a 22r and i think the fuel pump me be going bad. I have a repair manual and its shows there are two different types of mechanical fuel pumps. i wanted to know if the two were interchangeable. because the one a have costs a good bit more than the other. Thanks
