Ok guys, new to the forums and new to the scene.

Me and my best friend are 17, we are looking to get into street racing most likely.

We dont have tons of money right now, not very much to start, but we are going to get a car to split for the time being.

What I want to know is what is best to get for starters...(we are both very skilled drivers having many occasions to drive some of the newest cars out there and really enjoy it)

We want

1) Something fast and stable, good accel..good top speeds, nothing magical though.
2) Something that looks good, inside and out
3) Something beginners would be good with, and something not very expensive, as we dont have tons of money..

Dont have a budget right now, just would like to keep it lower..

We would like to get a car, perhaps modify, and then try out on some street racing with a local group.

Any suggestions/tips/help would be GREAT!

thanks :D

Get an E36 shell, swap in a DA Motorsports built 500 or 1000 S50B32, problem solved. Also, this is in the wrong section, and further...17 years old and racing? Yay Darwin. If you are paying your own insurance, then chalk this up as a pipe dream, because any car insurance company that will give good rates on a 17 year old male with a fast car is probably shaddy and I wouldn't trust. Also, if you are on a budget, then leave speed out of the equation for a bit. Going fast brakes shit, and you'll need money to fix it. What I'm trying to say is...

Learn how to drive first

+1.

I just realized...you, in order to be 17, must have been born in '89...Why does that make me feel old when I'm only 21?

I may be in the wrong section...can someone point me out to where I might find a car like this? Im really not sure about the racing part, we just want something fast, somewhat sporty, and reliable..oh and good handling as well.

If you have had a license for only a year and "going strong" then you dont want something very fast, cause there is a high probability you will crash. It's cute that you are sharing the car with your friend tho. :gay:

But in all seriousness, what about a celica gs-r or something along those lines? got some pep, but won't explode you in the face with power.

i seriously diddnt know what they made celica gs-r's....

lmao.

seriously. i am my self only 17, but i have been driving since i was 10 due to my father. street racing isnt for everyone, and so far, just learn to drive w/o hitting anything. speed = things break. b4 u can go fast u need to be able to stop. so the first things on list would be brakes, like lines and such. no need for drilled rotors unless u plan on doing fake 2F2F stuff on an actual circuit or auto-X. want something ex for beginners, realiable, and ez to make quick? grab a 90 or earlier civic hatch. things weigh like nothing. when u get used to it and such, just swap in a b18c i believe it is. that will be quick enough for your needs at the moment. btw, insurance will kill u at the age of 17. im lucky for the parents to take me under them, but i still pay a lot for it. mind u i am payin premium. there is plenty things u can do. looks shouldnt be your major concern if u want speed. it might be that F&F got to u that u need a nice looking car to go fast....which isnt the case. there is plenty things to do to stay in insurrance cheap and nice econo car.

b18c (i think) into civic hatch
sr20de(t) into b14 sentra
those are some simple examples that i can think of off the top of my head.....

You're 17. You're not a skilled driver. Oh, you think you are, but you're not.

This may deviate from the opinions of the rest of the group but I say go for a camaro or firebird..they are pretty cheap (got my '95 for 6K) and IMO are great looking cars..I guess the only downside is that V8's don't get amazing gas mileage..oh and I'm 17 and I have as of yet to crash my car or get any kind of tickets so don't worry about what everyone is saying about you being to young..

Not everybody can keep their right foot under control...

It's too easy to buy something with a little bit of power when you're young. Such as a early 90s Mustang 5.0 or Camaro Z28 5.0/5.7...

Getting behind the wheel of a car that has the smallest amount of power, and rear drive can be dangerous if you're not sure what you're doing. Sure, you get the tail stepped out once in a parking lot, make the guys go wooo and the girls go ooooo! You're a hero, sure okay. But what about when it gets wet out and you're just trying to get from point A to point B and you over step your mad tight 1 year of elite driving skilz.?

Bam, you end up in wrapped around a tree down by the river.

Get something cheap. Like an older Civic or Sentra. They have enough pep to get you into trouble, they're good on gas, and insurance. And cheap to fix if something goes wrong.

But if you do go out and buy something with power, just respect it. Cause it will not hesitate to get out from under you and kill you.

Driving for one year means nothing. You need to spend a couple more years driving in a normal car at a normal pace before you try to step into l337 street racer status. If you do fix up a car, take it to the track before you start running up and down the streets.

This is the attitude you'll receive from every member in the racing section.

Get a 1989-1992 fbody or foxbody for a car to build up for the track.

When you say you've had the chance to drive some of the newest cars out there...what exactly does that mean.

Or worse...someone else.

has any one missed the fact that they want to share a car.that will never work.you will be fighting all the time.if one of you breaks it,you will fight.if both of you want to take the gf out the same night, you will fight

and most of all if one of you wrecks it....................you will fight

also you both are 17 the car has to be in ONE of you parents name how can the other one be on the insurance.i know you can get full coverage, but if something happens you most likely have leagle issues on your hands

i would advise drop the hole idea and get a nice fox body mustange
.if you go through with this you will most likely loss a friend
