glue taking paint off?

after i paint the parts and cement them together, is it supposed to be really messy and take a little paint off? By the way, I dont apply primer to the parts, I just put the paint right on it. And I am using Testors plastic cement. Is this my problem or the cements problem?

Tube cement or liquid cement? The tube is much messier. Both will strip the paint though.

i always try to keep paint off the area that i will be glueing.
sometimes this means carefully scraping the paint off the glue areas. sometimes this means masking them.

yes, that's the 'damage' of plastic cement. It literally melts the plastic. So, try to use a less as possible. A lot of modelers end up using various types of CA (super glue) and white glue more than plastic cement due to that fact. I like to use 3m's gel type CA becuase you have a little over 60 seconds to adjust your parts or whatever. Normal CA only gives you around 3-5 seconds. Another way of 'fixing' this problem is: glue, sand then paint.

Get rid of the tube cement (if that's what you're using) Use liquidweld for bare plastic. Once painted then use superglue, epoxy or white PVA glue.

sometimes if i know which side or edge is going to be glued,i'll stick that edge with masking tape when im spraying.. this means when the part is dry and i remove it from the spraybooth the exposed side will where the part is glued.

Cant always do that though.

Remember Superglue can fog your parts and your paint aswell.
