Hello all,
I posted this a few days ago on the 93-96 board, and it has only had 2 views since then, so I'll try again on here
Our passat(glx vr6) has a trip computer, controlled by buttons on the windsheild wiper lever. The display is shared with the clock and has been having problems lately. After living with this problem for a while, I think i know somewhat of what is going on.
The clock will not display properly any time between 10:00 and 19:59 (10am to 8 pm), whenever there is a 1 in the x-:-- position. During these times of the trip computer functions do not display properly. The one thing that doesn't display properly even when the clock is ok is the gas milage.
It would seem to me that the display is not working properly.. but then.. when the clock is working most everything else works.
So I'm assuming that their is either a problem with the display or the clock.
Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem or solutions could be?
Thanks,
David

If the clock is truly a separate piece that just shares the display, and not just another function inside the trip computer (I don't know myself), then it most likely is the display. If the clock is keeping time properly, and just displays wrong, then the clock itself is probably fine. Same thing with the other functions - the ones that work when the clock is not in that timeframe. For example, if the distance traveled is accurate once it comes back to normal in the display, then most likely the trip computer is fine too. Not sure about the mileage thing, though. If that never works, then maybe the trip computer is the problem. If the display is easy to get to, and easy to disconnect, maybe you could get one from a junkyard or something, just to try it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Now I'll have to hope I can find a passat in a local scrap yard.
