okay so i am purchasing a 1999 eclipse gsx this weekend.well most likely am..i havent seen it yet or talked to the guy but heard about it from a friend..ive been pretty much just looking for a project car since i lost my license for awhile and cant drive.all my friend said was the car needs a fresh motor,a door, and a fender.so i dont know exactly whats wrong with it but i was just planning to swap in a new 4g63T anyways and have the tranny rebuilt by Shep racing.i have been on www.jspecautosports.com and www.japandomesticmotor.com and i seen plenty of 4g63T motors and even evo 4 and 5 motors but they all say for eclipse 1990-1994...anybody know where i can locate a motor for my 2nd gen?or will those work?and is it worth the little bit of extra money to put the evo 4g63 in then it is a regular one?any information will be appreciated...also...the guy is asking 3,000 for the gsx....sound sokay to me..what ya think?

Depends on whats wrong with it. If theres a blown engine and the body is smashed to hell, offer him less. If it still runs, it would be worth 3 grand to me.
If you are going to drop a new engine in, dont fuck around with another 7 bolt judging by how you want to put in a shep tranny, you are probably going to be running some power right? 7 bolt engines have a higher tendency to crank walk (thrust bearing failure) and that pretty much fucks your engine. The 90's, 91's, and most 92's came with 6 bolt engines, get yourself one of those. They are built stronger from the factory and I've never heard of one crankwalking. They are basically a direct swap, but there is a little of "customizing" that needs to take place. I'm 95% sure that Evo III engines will work, but I think starting with the Evo IV and on they used the mirror version of the 4g63 (t belt on the passenger side as opposed to the drivers side) but I might be wrong. If you dont plan on more than like 250 hp, I would just go 7 bolt, but if you plan on any decent amount of power, 6 bolt FTW.

I donnt know how much money you want to spend put if you plan on puting a new 6-bolt from a 1st gen in and a new tranny. Plus the door fender and probably something else major is wrong with it you would be better of buying a dsm in better shape to start with.
But, if you do want to do all that work do it right. Get a 1st gen 6-bolt; if you can afford it get a engine thats all ready bulit. u will have to get an intercooler if the engine doesnt come with one, all the electronics and fuel system. If you cant do all the work yourself its going to cost you.
I think you should go see it maybe take pics, then decide if you want to go through all that. No matter what its going to cost you.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Engines dont have intercoolers, thats an extra thing and no engine will come with one. Besides hes got the stock SMIC in the car already. His stock injectors, fuel pump, and fuel pressure regulator will work just fine until it gets more modified. Also, IIRC he keeps the ECU thats already in his car, he just needs to get a modified wiring harness. www.vfaq.com (http://www.vfaq.com) should have a good writeup on 6 bolt swaps. You could also find one if you search "6 bolt swap" on this site.

dude , just search or read at tunner, or something. You new to this shit and you already want 500+ hp, you should know what you are doing first. Dont just throw out a question and make every one answer it.

I think you need to simmer down and get the car first before starting to talk about getting it to 450 hp and street racing it on country roads. Read the FAQ until you pass out and learn as much as you can before asking questions.

Yup and I'm so damn jealous of you. Do you have dyno sheets for either car? Nope didn't think so. Stop opening your mouth and take the time to read the information already present on this forum. How many people do you think come in here with the exact same question as you looking for massive amounts of power but no real direction on how to get it and nowhere near the money required to get a car to that point? Too many.

Hey now, give the guy a break! His first question wasn't even what would be the best way to get the power, it was if it was a good price for the car. At least he kept his second question within this thread, instead of making a completely new one. He's already done a lot better compared to straight up noobs :)
