83 635csi Euro question

I'm looking at an 83 635CSI Euro that's being sold for $2000 thereabouts. From what I've seen (I haven't driven it yet or had a mechanic's inspection) it looks to be in pretty rough, although salvageable, condition. The owner has performed scheduled maintenance, although the car has 211K on it. Minor cosmetic damage is present (front grille needs to be replaced, car needs a coat of paint) and there is the characteristic top center rust on the rear driver's fender.

As I said, I haven't pulled the engine apart nor driven it yet (hopefully within the next two days), does it seem as if I'm being taken for a ride?

I don't mind doing whatever work I'm capable of myself, but I don't want to have to spend many times the price of the car just to get it in decent, less trackable, condition.

(In case you're a member of the Roadfly forums you've seen this post before)

Thanks.
