So, I ordered this intake package:
http://www.bestresin.com/images/0310%20005.JPG
From Best Resin in oooooh March or so. I didn't receive it for over a month, whereapon Best Resin refunded me my money, saying that they had their car broken into and all their stuff stolen. Fair enough. He then said he'd be sending me the stuff I ordered, including that intake package, for free. Good customer service.
Except that it's now almost 4 months later and I still haven't got the parts, and Best Resin doesn't answer my emails. :banghead:
Anyway, </rant> .... Has anyone seen this type of fuel injected intake for big block chevys anywhere else? I REALLY want to finish my Vega Modified. :frown:

AMT-ERTL 1967 Impala Street Machine kit had it. The kit is out of production but I have seen it around at swap meets.
I don't know if the RIDES version with the ridiculous wheel option had it also.

Here's the model kit I was referring to. Ross Gibson also does a street rat with a injector, but you have to buy the whole resin kit to use the induction system (about $25.00 US).

Have you thought about making one yourself? I'm pretty sure you could do it.

Wow,
John. I do owe you quite the apology. If I had not suggested Best Resin, then this would not have happened...

Not your problem Russ. It's just a shame that the guy has such a great site, makes so many unique parts and great prices... and never mails anything to anyone. :(
Can someone confirm if that's the Impala kit with the motor? I can grab one if so...

you can always try and make it yourself with plastic sheet from evergreen, it seems like the part would be simple enough to replicate

Yes, I know I can make it myself, except the filter. But to me, the conical filter is what makes it look so good, and I dunno how to duplicate that part.
stryfe, and just to be sure, it's THAT actual intake right? Not a TPI one with the big runners?

it's not that complex of a shape, basically flat panels and a section of cone for the filter. I've seen your builds and I think you could tackle this easily.

Well it's the cone part I think I'd have trouble with. I've never seen conical evergreen for sale... ? :uhoh:

how about cutting a section out of a kit airplane's bomb or missle? or make a paper cone and glue the proper sized discs on each end, use a piece of scrap inside to hold it all together.

I'm with Les :D
2 thoughts that might work:
1: the air filter looks damned like the screw cap on a tube. I looked around my workshop this a.m. and found a little tube of PVC glue for fixing inflatible swimming pools (:grinno: it's summer and I have 3 kids!!). The cap of the tube looks darn convincing and about in scale...
2. Chuck (as in "fix into the chuck of your drill") some styrene rod in your drill and use a sanding stick to "turn" the rod to cone shape - rather liek a DIY lathe. You can use a scribing tool and dymo tape to add the riffles or maybe even put some putty mass on it and then roll it over a corrugated surface.
Whatever, give it a go! What's the worst that can happen? At least you'll have a ball trying
EDIT: I've got it in the back of my mind that I recall seeing a Hiroboy post some time ago where he made an identical air filter for one of his builds...maybe check out some of his WIPs? But please remember this is only a very vague memory and could be completely wrong.

Oh, excellent, that's damn near identical.
I assume he used metalizers or something though. That looks like real aluminum :licka:
I think I'll order one up.

Thanks Hiro, but I don't have any of that material, and the filter in question is actually kind of oval, not round! :p
... And I just realised the one in the Impala kit is round too... *sigh*

There are 4 of those oval type air filters in the Steve Kinser Quaker State sprint car kit. I used that engine in this '32 Ford
http://images8.fotki.com/v146/photos/4/431166/1727971/Finished02-vi.jpg
The Parts Box also sells all kinds of shaped filters in resin.
They are on page 3 under 'Engines'
http://www.thepartsbox.com/all/index.html
I've bought from them before, and shipping was quick from Australia to the US.

Ya, I'm almost done a Steve Kinser sprint car and noticed that too. I suppose I could use them, or the ones from reliable resin. Thanks for all the ideas guys!
