I have long put off some needed repars to my Rodeo, mostly the valves and the compressor.
For the valves, anyone know how to time and torque them? I have checked all over the web and cannot find this. Also I really don't want to rip off both valve covers and attempt to guess at it with a set of feeler gauges. Any ideas would be great.
For the compressor, my AC went out about 20K ago. I can change the compressor without any problem (or so I think), but how do you get the air out of the lines when refilling the freon? I was thinking just to vent the high pressure port while adding the first can. ANY help would be great.
Other than that, it runs great. But any tips you may have on how to do this would be great. Thanks.

The valves are self-adjusting (hydraulic), so no adjustment or shims needed.
You really should have the AC refrigerant discharged by a mechanic both for safety and the environment.

Agree with what Anthonyn said on both accounts (btw, EPA can fine someone up to $25,000 per incident for releasing freon).
After the compressor is changed take it back to the shop (or another one) so they can put a vacuum on the system before recharging. The system needs to be vacuumed to 25" wc. to remove all air and moisture. If that isnt done then the air in the system will play havoc with the pressures and it'll never work right. Even more importantly the moisture will react with the refrigerant and form acid which will kill your new compressor.

The '97 model year does not use Freon.
If your valves are noisey, change and check your oil more often and do not use a Fram oil filter.

Yes and no. Freon became a generic term for refrigerant. Like the way channel locks and crescent wrench have. I've been an a/c tech for 15 yrs and still call all refrigerant freon :shakehead
I dont know what year isuzu switched from r-12 to r-134a but either way it should be recovered and not just released.
